Jakarta, INTI – Amid growing concerns about digital safety, TikTok has taken a significant step by introducing a series of new features aimed at safeguarding users particularly children and teenagers. Through this major update, TikTok reaffirms its commitment to creating a safer, healthier, and creativity-supportive digital environment.
Strengthening Parental Controls through Family Pairing
A key highlight of this update is the enhancement of the Family Pairing feature, which now allows parents to link their accounts with their children’s accounts for more tailored safety controls. Parents can block specific accounts from interacting with their child’s account and prevent such accounts from appearing on the teenager’s timeline.
Additionally, parents will now automatically receive notifications whenever their child posts a public video, story, or photo. TikTok explains that this approach is designed to help parents stay informed about their child’s activity without interfering with their creative expression.
More Transparent Privacy Control
Parents also gain greater visibility into the privacy settings chosen by their teens such as whether the download feature is enabled or if their followers list is visible to others. This step ensures that privacy is maintained while still allowing creative freedom.
Creator Care Mode: Protecting Creators from Harmful Comments
For creators, TikTok introduces the Creator Care Mode, a system that automatically filters out offensive, inappropriate, or abusive comments. The AI-powered system learns the creator’s comment-blocking patterns, enabling it to proactively screen similar comments in the future.
It also blocks comments from users who were previously reported, disliked, or whose comments were removed.
Improved TikTok Live Tools and Content Review Features
On TikTok Live, creators can now block specific words from appearing in their comment section. Users who post these words will be muted for a time period determined by the creator.
TikTok also introduced Content Check Lite, which allows creators to check whether their content is eligible to appear on the For You page before publishing. A more advanced version, Content Check, is currently being tested to assess whether content complies with TikTok’s Community Guidelines.
Promoting Digital Well-being for Users
To support digital wellness, TikTok has introduced a new feature called Well-being Missions. Through short quizzes and interactive cards, users are encouraged to build healthier and more balanced digital habits. Completing missions will reward users with achievement badges.
Furthermore, TikTok is developing a dedicated digital well-being space within the app, offering tools such as guided breathing exercises, calming audio tracks, and screen time insights to help users reset their digital balance.
Conclusion:
TikTok demonstrates its seriousness in building a safer and more supportive digital ecosystem for teens, parents, and creators alike. By combining AI-driven technology, enhanced parental controls, and a focus on digital well-being, TikTok is evolving beyond a mere entertainment platform into a more responsible digital space.
