Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemenkomdigi) announced the latest developments in the selection process for users of the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz radio frequency bands for mobile cellular network services in 2026.
PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk, PT Indosat Tbk, and PT Telekomunikasi Selular have confirmed their participation in the initial stage of the e-auction process. They obtained their e-auction accounts on April 29–30, 2026, as a requirement for participating in the selection process.
The entry of these three major operators marks a fierce competition for frequency spectrum, which is crucial for improving the quality and speed of mobile internet services in Indonesia, both 4G and 5G.
After gaining access to the e-auction system, the three operators can now download and review the selection documents provided by the government. The document download process will run from April 29 to May 7, 2026. The participants will then be considered prospective selection participants, and will be allowed to submit questions regarding the documents through the e-auction system.
This stage is a crucial step before entering the actual frequency auction process. The selection results will determine the competitive landscape of the national telecommunications industry, including the delivery of faster and more equitable 4G and 5G services.
The Frequencies Offered in The Auction
In the 700 MHz frequency auction, Kemenkomdigi is offering the 703-738 MHz (uplink) band, paired with the 758-793 MHz (downlink) band, for a total bandwidth of 70 MHz. This frequency is known as a low-frequency band with wider signal coverage and better penetration into buildings and difficult geographical areas such as mountains, forests, and remote areas.
Meanwhile, the 2.6 GHz frequency Kemenkomdigi is offering is high-bandwidth spectrum, specifically the 2500-2690 MHz range, with a total bandwidth of 190 MHz. This is a mid-range frequency band with a greater capacity to accommodate high data traffic. This frequency is suitable for use in densely populated urban areas with high internet needs, such as business districts, shopping centers, campuses, and industrial areas.
Conclusion
Kemenkomdigi has opened the initial selection phase for the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequency auctions for cellular services in 2026. Three major operators in Indonesia, PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk, PT Indosat Tbk, and PT Telekomunikasi Selular, are officially entering the e-auction process. The 700 MHz frequency is focused on expanding internet coverage to remote areas due to its wide coverage area. Meanwhile, the 2.6 GHz is intended to increase internet capacity and speed in densely populated areas, such as urban areas.
