Telkomsel Deploys 4G/LTE BTS on Sangiang Island, Banten

1 hour ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI - PT Telkomsel has introduced 4G/LTE network services on Sangiang Island in Serang Regency, Banten, as part of its efforts to strengthen connectivity between Java and Sumatra.

The island, known for its white sandy beaches, rich coral reefs, and well-preserved biodiversity, holds a strategic position along the key maritime route linking the two major islands.

Ade Mulyono, General Manager of Region Network Operations and Productivity for Jakarta and Banten at Telkomsel, stated that as mobility and tourism activities in the area continue to grow, the presence of reliable broadband connectivity has become increasingly essential to support communication and digital access.

“As part of our commitment to being the leading digital telecommunications provider in the region, Telkomsel continues to expand and equalize network infrastructure across the Sunda Strait area. We are also the only operator providing 4G/LTE services on Sangiang Island, which previously had limited network access,” he said.

Enhancing Network Realibility for Travelers

Ade explained that this initiative is supported by the operation of dozens of BTS units across the coastal regions of Banten and Lampung. Strengthening the network on Sangiang Island also enhances data connectivity along the Merak–Bakauheni crossing route, one of the busiest sea lanes connecting Java and Sumatra.

“The BTS presence in this area also serves as a connecting point that helps maintain signal continuity for passengers during inter-island sea travel,” he added.

“With faster network speeds and more stable signal coverage, customers can enjoy seamless communication and data services, both on land and while crossing the Sunda Strait,” Ade said.

This improvement is particularly crucial during the Ramadan and Eid (RAFI) 2026 period, when mobility along the route significantly increases.

Conclusion

Telkomsel’s deployment of 4G/LTE on Sangiang Island marks a significant step in strengthening digital connectivity across the Sunda Strait. By improving network reliability in a key transportation corridor, the initiative supports both tourism growth and the increasing demand for seamless communication, especially during peak travel periods.
