Jakarta, INTI - PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Ditjen Dukcapil) under Indonesia's Ministry of Home Affairs, is strengthening preparations for the deployment of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite connectivity to support civil registration services in 50 regions with limited or no telecommunications coverage. The initiative was highlighted during a knowledge-sharing session held in Jakarta on July 27, 2026.
MangoStar Service Deployment Introduced
The event introduced Telkomsat's satellite connectivity solutions while socializing the upcoming implementation of its MangoStar service to support the Ministry of Home Affairs' connectivity requirements.
The session was attended by 50 heads of regional Civil Registration Offices from districts selected to receive LEO satellite connectivity assistance.
Participants were provided with comprehensive training on MangoStar services, including equipment installation, system configuration, operational procedures, and basic troubleshooting for potential satellite network disruptions.
Telkomsat Commercial Director Andri Yunianto emphasized that satellite technology plays a vital role in ensuring uninterrupted public services in areas where terrestrial telecommunications infrastructure remains inadequate.
He stated that Telkomsat is committed to expanding digital connectivity through satellite-based solutions, particularly for communities that still lack reliable network access. According to Andri, the initiative is part of the company's broader mission to provide dependable connectivity that supports both public services and community needs across Indonesia.
He added that LEO satellite connectivity is expected to provide local governments with more stable access to population administration systems, enabling essential public services to continue even in remote regions beyond the reach of conventional networks.
Regional Governments Prepare for Implementation
Hani Syopiar Rustam, Secretary of the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration, noted that the readiness of regional governments will be a key factor in ensuring the successful deployment and operation of satellite equipment in beneficiary areas.
He stressed that reliable communications infrastructure is essential for delivering efficient population administration services. Through the knowledge-sharing program, local officials are expected to gain a thorough understanding of the implementation and operation of the MangoStar service, allowing them to maximize its benefits for the communities they serve.
The program will cover 50 target regions across Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, and Papua, areas identified as having no signal or severely limited telecommunications coverage.
