Telkom University Strengthens Cybersecurity Education to Support National Digital Resilience

5 months ago | Cyber Security

Jakarta, INTI – Amid the rising frequency of cyberattacks that continue to threaten both the public and industrial sectors, strengthening Indonesia’s digital resilience has become an urgent priority. The gap between escalating threats and the limited number of digital talents is increasingly hindering various national economic transformation agendas. In response, Telkom University and Kaspersky formalized a strategic collaboration in cybersecurity education through a partnership launched in early 2025. This initiative offers a more structured and systematic talent development solution to reinforce the nation’s digital defense.

Strategic Partnership to Address the Cybersecurity Talent Shortage

Kaspersky and Telkom University agreed to implement joint programs aimed at educating and cultivating a new generation of cybersecurity professionals. The collaboration includes seminars, workshops, specialized curricula, and student access to beginner-level and foundational cybersecurity courses.

“We believe that developing competent cyber talents is not only part of our mission but a crucial step in strengthening the country’s cyber resilience,” said Defi Nofitra, Country Manager of Kaspersky Indonesia. He emphasized that digital talents will serve as the frontline defenders against the ever-evolving cyber threats.

Growing Cyber Threats, Urgent Demand for Digital Talent

Data from the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) shows that by August 2025, the number of cyberattacks had surpassed 3.64 billion cases. The most prevalent types of attacks include ransomware, phishing, and social engineering.

On the other hand, Indonesia is projected to require 12 million digital talents by 2030, while the current shortage stands at 2.7 million people, according to the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). This gap has the potential to hinder national economic growth.

“This collaboration is not merely ceremonial, but marks the beginning of joint efforts to nurture a generation of students who are aware of cybersecurity,” Defi added.

Talent Development Through Curriculum and Competitions

This partnership introduces several key programs, including:

  • Online workshops through Kaspersky Academy
  • Specialized training for Telkom University lecturers
  • Student access to Cybersecurity Fundamentals courses
  • Joint national hackathon events
  • Development of new curricula and teaching materials for faculties

According to Simon Tung, General Manager of Kaspersky ASEAN & AEC, the collaboration serves as an ideal platform to share knowledge and experience with young people who will safeguard Indonesia’s digital ecosystem in the future.

Support from Telkom University and the Government

Telkom University’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Parman Sukarno, expressed hope that the collaboration will strengthen Indonesia’s cyber resilience through impactful educational initiatives.

Meanwhile, Angga Prabowo, during his tenure as Deputy Minister of Komdigi, underscored that digital talent development is part of the national strategy to support the economic growth target of up to 8%. The government successfully produced 100,000 digital talents within the first 100 days of work, reinforcing optimism for the acceleration of digital transformation.

Conclusion

The collaboration between Telkom University and Kaspersky marks a concrete step in addressing the increasing cyber threats in Indonesia. Through structured and targeted digital talent development, Indonesia is expected to build a stronger cyber defense foundation and safeguard the continuity of its economic growth in the digital age.
