Jakarta, INTI - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom), through its GoZero% sustainability initiative, has once again joined forces with local communities to promote environmental action through GoZero% Goes to Klangon at Bukit Klangon, Glagaharjo Village, Sleman, Yogyakarta, on September 25.
Building on the GoZero% Goes to Yogyakarta program launched in 2025, this year’s initiative has been expanded to include environmental conservation, waste management, and the development of the GoZero% EcoCamp Klangon. The activities were held as part of World Cleanup Day and reflect Telkom’s efforts to promote environmental management practices that can deliver long-term benefits for the local area and community.
Through GoZero% Goes to Klangon, Telkom is taking a sustainability approach that goes beyond one-off environmental activities by focusing on facilities, knowledge, and positive habits that can continue to be maintained after the program ends. Several initiatives involve local communities in protecting the area while strengthening their capacity to manage environmental resources at the local level.
Telkom SVP Group Sustainability and Corporate Communication Ahmad Reza said the initiative builds on the program launched in 2025 while introducing a more integrated approach to sustainability.
“We want sustainability programs to go beyond a single activity and develop into ecosystems that can create long-term impact. While our focus in 2025 was reforestation, this year we have expanded the approach by integrating conservation, waste management, the development of GoZero% EcoCamp Klangon, and community involvement. We hope what has been built together in Klangon can continue to be managed and developed by the community so that its benefits extend beyond the program itself,” Reza said.
Environmental Conservation and Waste Management
As part of its conservation efforts, the GoZero% Plant & Grow Action program involved planting 200 trees around the camping area. The trees included mandarin oranges, coffee, and sengon, selected to support reforestation and environmental conservation in Klangon.
The planting process took seasonal conditions and plant survival rates into consideration, while maintenance and monitoring were also introduced to support healthy growth.
Another component of GoZero% Goes to Klangon involved the installation of waste-sorting facilities for organic, inorganic, residual, and hazardous waste, along with a community waste bank. These facilities were accompanied by education and community assistance to encourage waste separation at the source and promote more structured waste management practices.
Telkom also introduced GoZero% Waste to Soil, an initiative focused on producing simple compost together with local residents. Collected organic waste is processed into compost and reused for plants around the Klangon area. The shared composting facility is expected to serve as both a learning space and a resource that the community can manage and utilize over the long term.
Developing GoZero% EcoCamp Klangon
Beyond environmental initiatives, Telkom is developing GoZero% EcoCamp Klangon as an environmentally friendly camping destination. The implementation of GoZero% Rules forms part of the area’s management approach, particularly in maintaining cleanliness and comfort throughout the camping grounds.
Several supporting facilities have also been introduced, including a welcome gate, photo spots, and educational signage providing information about the camping area and waste management practices for visitors. These additions are also intended to strengthen Klangon’s identity as an eco-friendly tourism destination.
“The program also has the potential to encourage a circular economy in Klangon Tourism Village. We hope increased tourism visits can contribute to local community income, which can then be reinvested in developing facilities in the area. In this way, the benefits can continue to circulate and create value for the community,” said Telkom VP Sustainability Gunawan Wasisto Ciptaning Andri.
The initiative is expected to expand community participation in environmental conservation while establishing area-management practices that can be continued independently. It also forms part of Telkom’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) implementation, particularly through the Save Our Planet pillar, which promotes practical initiatives that benefit both the environment and local communities.
Telkom views sustainability as an ongoing process that requires collective involvement and continued management after a program has been completed. Through GoZero% Goes to Klangon, the facilities, knowledge, and positive practices established through the initiative are expected to become a shared legacy that continues to grow and generate benefits for the environment and the Klangon community.
