Jakarta, INTI - The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) has approved an extension of discussions on the Draft Law on New and Renewable Energy (RUU EBET), allowing lawmakers and the government to continue refining the substance of the proposed regulations.
The decision was approved during the sixth plenary session of the First Session of the 2026–2027 parliamentary year at the Nusantara II Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on September 24, 2026.
Deputy Speaker of DPR RI Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, who chaired the session, said the proposal to extend deliberations on the EBET Bill had previously been discussed during a consultation meeting replacing the House Steering Committee (Bamus) meeting on September 21, 2026.
“Accordingly, at today’s plenary session, can we approve the extension of the deliberation period for the aforementioned Draft Law?” Cucun asked, which was followed by approval from the attending lawmakers.
EBET Bill Deliberations to Continue
Following approval from DPR RI members, Cucun formally confirmed the extension of the EBET Bill deliberations during the plenary session.
The decision allows the relevant DPR RI commission overseeing energy affairs to continue discussing the bill with the government.
The extension comes as DPR RI and the government continue efforts throughout 2026 to expand the utilization of new and renewable energy sources.
The development of new and renewable energy is part of broader efforts to strengthen national energy security and support Indonesia’s energy transition.
Regulation Expected to Provide Greater Certainty
The extension is expected to provide additional time to further develop the regulatory framework governing new and renewable energy development.
The proposed legislation is also expected to provide greater regulatory certainty for the development of new and renewable energy while supporting the achievement of Indonesia’s national energy transition targets.
DPR RI and the government will continue deliberations on the EBET Bill following the approval of the extension during the plenary session.
