SLB and Nvidia Partners in Developing AI Infrastructure for Energy Sector

2 months ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - On Wednesday, oil field services company SLB announced its new partnership with Nvidia to develop artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and models to boost AI use in the energy industry.

SLB and Nvidia first partnered in 2008 for SLB to use Nvidia’s accelerated computing. The partnership then expanded in 2024 to develop generative AI solutions in the energy sector.

The partnership reflects the energy industry’s demand for a quicker process of growing volumes of geological, production, and infrastructure data, even though producers are seeking out cost efficiency, reliability improvement, and lower emissions.

As traditional drilling demand slows, oilfield service companies like SLB are pivoting toward the tech sector. They are looking to fuel growth by providing critical infrastructure, such as power equipment, turbines, and data solutions to data centers and AI infrastructures.

AI Helped The Industry to Turn Massive Data into Insights

Through the new partnership with Nvidia, SLB will act as design partner for modular AI data centers based on Nvidia technology. SLB will also work with a US chip firm to create “AI Factory for Energy”, a platform designed to help oil and gas producers and power companies apply AI to large volumes of operational data.

Vladimir Troy, Vice President of AI Infrastructure at Nvidia, said that AI infrastructure and models are needed to convert data into actionable insights.

"Building AI Factory infrastructure and domain models is needed to turn massive amounts of energy data into actionable insights and accelerate more efficient ‌and sustainable energy systems," said Troy.

Conclusion

The expanded partnership between SLB and Nvidia reflects how artificial intelligence is becoming essential in the energy industry. By developing AI infrastructure and the “AI Factory for Energy,” the collaboration aims to help energy companies process vast operational data more quickly.
