PT PAL and Indonesia’s Ministry Strengthen Research to Advance National Maritime Industry Technology

Jakarta, INTI - PT PAL Indonesia and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) are strengthening research and development collaboration to enhance the capabilities of Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry and accelerate the advancement of national maritime technology.

The partnership follows the President’s directive to strengthen cooperation between universities and PT PAL in supporting the industrialization of Indonesia’s shipbuilding sector.

Research Collaboration Strengthens Shipbuilding Industry

PT PAL Indonesia President Director Kaharuddin Djenod stated that the collaboration is essential to ensure research outcomes can be transformed into innovations that deliver added value for the national industry. PT PAL has also established research partnerships with domestic universities, including Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and Hasanuddin University (Unhas).

According to Kaharuddin, the shipbuilding industry is a strategic sector that integrates various scientific disciplines and industrial capabilities to produce high-value products.

He highlighted that the involvement of universities and research institutions will strengthen the industry’s ability to develop advanced technologies while addressing technical challenges in the shipbuilding sector.

Accelerating Industrial Transformation

Over the past five years, PT PAL has continued its transformation through production facility modernization, the implementation of Maritime Industry 4.0 (IM4), business process digitalization, workforce competency development, and stronger corporate governance.

The transformation has contributed to improved productivity, more efficient production processes, and enhanced competitiveness for PT PAL in both domestic and international markets.

Kaharuddin emphasized that industrial transformation requires collective support from various stakeholders, including the government, supporting industries, financial institutions, universities, and research organizations.

He stated that collaboration across the maritime ecosystem is crucial to ensuring sustainable growth and strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global maritime industry.
