Jakarta, INTI - PT Pertamina Hulu Energy (PHE) reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining national energy security while accelerating the energy transition through its Dual Growth Strategy. This strategy is implemented by maximizing its core oil and gas business and developing low-carbon businesses sustainably.
PHE conveyed this commitment when receiving a visit from the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Yuliot Tanjung, at the PHE Booth at the 50th IPA Convention and Exhibition (Convex) 2026 at ICE BSD, Wednesday, May 20.
PHE’s National Oil and Gas Production
PHE's Director of Risk Management, Whisnu Bahriansyah, explained that the company currently contributes 65 percent to national oil production and 37 percent to national gas production. Furthermore, it operates 27 percent of Indonesia's oil and gas blocks.
Throughout 2025, PHE recorded oil production of 556,000 barrels of oil per day (MBOPD) and gas production of 2.75 billion standard cubic feet per day (BSCFD). This performance was supported by 887 development well drillings, well servicing of 37,266 wells, and 1,288 workover activities.
"Through an adaptive and integrated risk management approach, we ensure that every step of the company's transformation continues to support national energy security while creating sustainable value for the future," said Whisnu.
He emphasized that the company's strategy focuses not only on business sustainability but also on long-term risk management in facing the global energy transition. Therefore, in the energy transition sector, PHE continues to strengthen various sustainability initiatives.
"PHE is implementing a balanced growth strategy between strengthening its core oil and gas business and developing low-carbon businesses," he said.
PHE has successfully maintained its MSCI ESG "BBB" rating, implemented more than 808 corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, and recorded a carbon emission reduction of 1,619,564 tons of CO2e.
PHE is also developing Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) and Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS) projects with global partners. By 2030, the total planned carbon storage capacity will reach 7.3 gigatons.
Strategic Milestones in 2024–2025
These include the commencement of the Sukowati CO2 injection project, with an estimated oil recovery increase of 19.2 million barrels, the discovery of 2C resources in Tedong of 108.05 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE), and the implementation of the first multi-stage fracturing in the Kotabatak horizontal well.
Furthermore, PHE also recorded the development of North Duri A14 through the first steamflood injection for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), the onstream Akasia Greenfield with initial production reaching 3,200 BOPD, and production from the Padang Pancuran I Field with estimated reserves of 1.1 million barrels of oil.
The company is also developing an EOR Chemical project in the Minas Area, the onstream Sisi Nubi Area of Interest with a production capacity of 70 MMSCFD, and the development of the Abab Step Out well as part of the brownfield revitalization program.
For 2026 and the next years, PHE has prepared several strategic follow-up projects, such as the development of the Lavender Block in the East Natuna Sea, the OO-OX ONWJ greenfield project, deepwater exploration in East Natuna, and the development of unconventional oil and gas fields in the Rokan Working Area.
In the innovation sector, the company has also begun utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to support drilling operations, asset management integration, and subsurface development to make them more effective and efficient. Meanwhile, the Asri Basin CCS project is one of the company's future focuses, targeting a carbon storage potential of 2.9 gigatons.
