Jakarta, INTI - State-owned energy company PT Pertamina (Persero) has prepared the necessary infrastructure to support the Indonesian government's efforts to strengthen national energy security while accelerating the transition to cleaner fuels through the development of bioethanol-based biofuels, including the implementation of E5 to E20 fuel blends.
Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, stated that the company has established fuel blending facilities, fuel terminals, and distribution infrastructure to support the nationwide rollout of bioethanol.
"Pertamina has prepared blending infrastructure, fuel terminals, and distribution facilities," Baron said.
He emphasized that the company is fully committed to supporting the government's bioethanol development agenda.
Gradual Rollout of Pertamax Green 95
Through its subsidiary PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Pertamina currently markets Pertamax Green 95 at 177 fuel stations across several regions in Java.
The rollout of Pertamax Green 95 marks the initial phase of Indonesia's broader bioethanol adoption strategy.
The fuel consists of Pertamax blended with 5% sugarcane-based bioethanol (E5), offering a cleaner alternative to conventional gasoline.
Baron added that Pertamina ensures all biofuel products meet government quality standards and technical specifications to guarantee safe and reliable distribution.
Bioethanol Facility Development and the E20 Vision
Separately, Pertamina Vice President Director Oki Muraza announced that the company is constructing a bioethanol production facility in Glenmore, Banyuwangi, East Java.
The new facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 30,000 kiloliters of bioethanol.
The government's bioethanol roadmap, beginning with E10 and progressing toward E20, is designed to reduce gasoline imports while enhancing Indonesia's long-term energy security.
President Prabowo Subianto has also outlined plans to significantly expand the country's bioethanol production capacity by building 30 to 50 ethanol plants nationwide.
These facilities are intended to increase the production of ethanol-blended fuels and accelerate Indonesia's clean energy transition.
Pointing to international examples, President Prabowo highlighted India's successful adoption of E20 and Brazil's widespread use of E100, expressing confidence that Indonesia can also achieve its long-term E20 bioethanol target.
