Jakarta, INTI – PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) has officially launched a limited trial for the QRIS Tap payment method, a Near Field Communication (NFC)-based contactless payment system. The trial, conducted at MRT Bundaran HI Bank DKI Station and MRT Lebak Bulus Station, allows passengers to complete ticket transactions more quickly and conveniently without scanning a QR code.
QRIS Tap is the latest feature enabling users to make payments simply by tapping their NFC-enabled smartphones on a ticket scanner. This technology streamlines the transaction process, making it more efficient compared to traditional QR code scanning methods.
During the launch event, Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, stated, "NFC-based QRIS Tap will enhance the speed and convenience of contactless transactions for the public. Its implementation will expand the digital payment ecosystem to be more inclusive, secure, and cost-effective for public services."
Near Field Communication (NFC) is a short-range wireless communication technology that allows devices to exchange data within a few centimeters. Utilizing high-frequency radio waves, NFC enables instant data transfer without requiring an internet connection.
In the QRIS Tap payment system, NFC facilitates quick transactions by simply tapping the device on a scanner. Unlike standard QR code methods that require a camera to scan codes, NFC reduces transaction time and enhances user efficiency.
Some key advantages of NFC technology in public transportation payment systems include:
Currently, the limited trial of QRIS Tap is available only for trips between MRT Bundaran HI Bank DKI Station and MRT Lebak Bulus Station. Passengers traveling on other routes must continue using existing payment methods available on MRT Jakarta.
Additionally, the payment applications supporting the QRIS Tap feature are currently limited to:
The implementation of this feature will be gradually expanded to all MRT Jakarta stations following evaluation and monitoring.
Passengers who wish to try this payment method can follow these steps:
At present, QRIS Tap is only available for Android devices. Bank Indonesia is working to enable this feature for iOS users in the near future.
President Director of PT MRT Jakarta, Tuhiyat, stated that the implementation of QRIS Tap is part of the digital transformation in payment systems for the public transportation sector. "MRT Jakarta has provided various cashless payment options, including electronic money cards, digital wallets, QRIS scanning, debit cards, credit cards, and the MyMRTJ app. The introduction of QRIS Tap further enriches the payment options for MRT Jakarta passengers."
In the future, QRIS Tap will be expanded to other transportation modes, including TransJakarta, LRT Jakarta and Jabodebek, KRL Jabodetabek, Teman Bus, as well as merchants in parking, healthcare, and retail sectors. This broad implementation is expected to drive greater adoption of digital payments across various public services.
For more details on the development of the QRIS Tap payment method in MRT Jakarta, customers can access PT MRT Jakarta’s official media channels or contact MRT Jakarta’s customer service center.
The implementation of QRIS Tap in MRT Jakarta marks a significant advancement in the digitalization of public transportation payment systems. Utilizing NFC technology, this method provides passengers with faster, more secure, and more convenient transactions. Although still in a limited trial phase, QRIS Tap has great potential for widespread adoption across various transportation modes and public services. Moving forward, this innovation is expected to further enhance efficiency and improve user experiences in digital-based transportation services.
