Jakarta, INTI - Microsoft ensures customer data is not used to train artificial intelligence (AI) models. Fiki Setiyono, Cloud and AI Go-to-Market Lead for Microsoft ASEAN, said the company ensures customer data is not sent to retrain Microsoft's reasoning models.
"Because at Microsoft, we have several reasoning models, but one of Microsoft's frontier models, for example Azure Open AI, is not sent for retraining," said Fiki at the Media Work Trend Index 2026 Indonesia Media Briefing on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
Fiki explained that Microsoft customer data is not being used to improve the reasoning model's capabilities. He stated that Microsoft has technically built a demonstrable mechanism to ensure this.
The Industry Pushes for Sovereign AI
Fiki also stated that the increasing attention to data security and management actually indicates that the industry's need for AI is now moving toward the concept of sovereign AI. He believes this trend is not a setback, but rather evidence that AI adoption has matured, making the issue of sovereign AI increasingly relevant.
Fiki added that Microsoft supports the implementation of sovereign AI through two main principles. The first principle is ensuring the availability of AI infrastructure. The second principle is democratizing access to AI models.
Fiki said Microsoft does not limit users to just one AI model, but rather provides a variety of model options. Overall, Microsoft Foundry now has around 11,000 AI models available for customers to use.
Conclusion
Microsoft emphasized that customer data is not used to retrain artificial intelligence (AI) models, including reasoning models. Fiki Setiyono, Cloud and AI Go-to-Market Lead for Microsoft ASEAN, said the company has implemented proven technical mechanisms to ensure customer data remains protected and is not used to improve AI model capabilities. According to him, the increasing attention to security and data management shows that AI adoption drives towards the concept of sovereign AI.
