Jakarta, INTI - Microsoft shared the latest findings from the Work Trend Index 2026 report, which shows that Indonesia is at the forefront of utilizing AI in the world of work. These findings indicate that Indonesian workers are increasingly mature in using AI
As many as 33% of Indonesian workers are now in the Frontier Professionals category, which is a group of advanced AI users in this research and more than double the global average of 16%.
These findings show that Indonesian workers are not only quickly adopting AI, but also starting to use it to produce higher-value work in a more focused and responsible manner.
Based on these results, as many as 72% of respondents in Indonesia admitted that they were now able to produce work or output that they previously thought was impossible. This percentage is much higher than the global average of only 58%.
Responsible AI Use in Workflow
It is important to note that the deeper AI enters the workflow, the more important the human ability to direct, judge, and make decisions becomes.
Regarding skills that are important in the AI era, 62% of respondents in Indonesia mentioned critical thinking and information analysis. Aside from that, 60% of respondents considered quality control of AI output to be important.
As many as 93% of AI users in Indonesia treat AI output not as the final answer and still place themselves as the person responsible for the final results of their work. This figure is above the global average of 86%.
This confirms that Indonesian workers do not see AI as a replacement for human thinking, but rather as a tool to strengthen the quality of work. This shows how important the responsible use of AI is.
"The findings of the Work Trend Index 2026 show that Indonesia has a strong foundation to lead the next phase in AI transformation in the workplace. What stands out is not only the speed of adoption, but also the maturity of Indonesian workers in using AI — while continuing to place human judgment, quality control, and responsibility at the center of how they work," said Fiki Setiyono, Senior Cloud & AI Platform GTM at Microsoft ASEAN.
Challenges in AI Adaptation
On the other hand, as many as 85% of AI users in Indonesia said they were worried about being left behind if they did not quickly adapt to AI, higher than the global figure of 65%. However, this pressure is accompanied by an openness to exploring new ways of working, including leveraging AI to redesign work processes.
For companies, the next challenge is to turn individual readiness into a transformation that can be developed on a much larger scale.
In Indonesia, as many as 42% of AI users assess that their company leaders have clear and consistent views regarding AI. Meanwhile, 41% say reinvention efforts are rewarded even when they do not immediately yield results, nearly three times the global figure of 13%.
These findings provide a positive signal that Indonesia not only has a workforce that is ready to use AI, but is also starting to build organizational foundations to drive broader transformation, from the individual level to changing the way things work at the company level.
Conclusion
Microsoft revealed in its Work Trend Index 2026 that Indonesia is one of the leading countries in the use of AI in the workplace, with 33% of workers categorized as Frontier Professionals, more than double the global average of 16%. Around 72% of Indonesian respondents said they are able to produce work previously considered impossible thanks to AI. Despite the increasing adoption of AI, Indonesian workers also prioritize responsible use of AI, as 93% of respondents do not consider AI output as the final answer for their work.
