Jakarta, INTI - The Special Committee on Parking Governance of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD DKI Jakarta) is urging the Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based parking monitoring systems to reduce potential losses in Regional Original Revenue (PAD) and improve transparency in parking management.
Integrated Digital System for Better Transparency
Committee Chairman Jupiter said that while the city's transition to digital parking payments is a positive step, it must be supported by a fully integrated monitoring system.
"We appreciate the Transportation Agency's efforts to introduce digital parking payments. However, that alone is not enough," he said.
The committee proposes developing a comprehensive parking ecosystem that integrates licensing data, parking operations, electronic payment transactions, CCTV surveillance, Electronic Automatic Identification (EAI), and AI-powered monitoring into a single platform.
According to Jupiter, technology should serve as a key tool for ensuring greater transparency, accountability, and more reliable public parking services while minimizing opportunities for revenue leakage.
AI to Monitor Transactions and Parking Occupancy
Jupiter explained that AI-enabled CCTV systems could automatically count vehicles entering and leaving parking facilities.
The data could then be matched with electronic payment records in real time, allowing authorities to quickly identify discrepancies and potential irregularities.
"AI technology will enable the government to monitor parking occupancy automatically," he said.
He also noted that the current digital payment system still relies heavily on parking attendants, leaving room for cash transactions that bypass the official system.
"As long as transactions can occur outside the system, the risk of revenue leakage remains. We need a technology-driven approach that minimizes dependence on manual processes and strengthens oversight," Jupiter added.
