5 hours ago | Startups & Digital Talent

Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia's young innovators have once again earned international recognition after a team of university students captured three prestigious awards at the International Youth Tech Innovation Summit 2026 in Beijing, China.

Competing against teams from more than 50 leading universities worldwide, the Indonesian delegation impressed the judging panel with practical, socially impactful technology solutions powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

Three Major Awards Secured

The Indonesian team achieved an outstanding performance by winning the Best Innovation Award for developing an IoT-based smart disaster mitigation system, the Most Sustainable Project Award for presenting an environmentally sustainable technology solution with strong global implementation potential, and the People's Choice Award, which was determined through public voting and the team's engaging presentation during the exhibition.

"We never expected to bring home three trophies. The competition was extremely tough, especially against teams from China and Europe that showcased highly advanced technologies. Our focus, however, was on creating practical solutions that directly benefit communities," said the head of the Indonesian delegation after the award ceremony.

AI Innovation for Disaster Preparedness

The team's flagship innovation, Nusantara Shield, played a key role in securing the victories.

The platform combines affordable IoT sensors with AI algorithms to provide real-time early detection of hydrometeorological disasters. International judges praised the solution not only for its technological sophistication but also for its cost efficiency, making it highly suitable for deployment in developing countries. Compared with the average competing projects, Nusantara Shield demonstrated higher prediction accuracy, lower production costs, and greater implementation readiness, underscoring its strong potential for real-world application.

The achievement also received recognition from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Beijing, which pledged to facilitate connections with both local and Indonesian investors to help transform the innovation from a competition project into a commercially viable solution.

Conclusion

The Indonesian team's triple victory highlights the country's growing pool of digital talent and innovation capacity. By combining AI with practical, community-focused solutions, the students demonstrated that Indonesian innovators can compete with, and even outperform, leading international teams on the global technology stage.
