Jakarta, INTI - The government of Indonesia is stepping up efforts to accelerate green industrial transformation in response to growing competitiveness pressures and environmental challenges. The Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia is reinforcing the role of standardization and certification as essential tools to advance sustainable manufacturing practices.
Standardization and Certification Drive Sustainable Manufacturing
As part of this initiative, the Padang Industrial Standardization and Services Center (BSPJI) has been tasked with implementing the strategy. The center delivers certification and standardization services aimed at helping industries improve production efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that green industry implementation is a key pillar of national industrial development. “The government continues to encourage industry players to consistently apply the principles of resource efficiency and eco-friendly production as the foundation for strengthening the national industrial structure,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday, March 5, 2026, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.
Green Industry Enhances Competitiveness and Sustainability
He further emphasized that adopting green industry practices not only safeguards the environment but also enhances added value and competitiveness. “Through the application of these principles, companies can reduce production costs, increase productivity, and strengthen the position of their products in domestic and global markets. Communities also benefit from better environmental quality and sustainable economic growth,” he said.
BSPJI Padang operates as a technical unit under the Industrial Services Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI). It offers conformity assessment services to ensure efficient use of energy, water, and raw materials while minimizing environmental impact.
To support this policy direction, BSPJI Padang provides Green Industry Certification for companies that meet established criteria. This certification serves as formal recognition of a company’s commitment to efficient and environmentally responsible production.
The certification program applies to several industries, including Portland cement, solid NPK fertilizer, mineral water, crumb rubber, and palm cooking oil, all aligned with Green Industry Standards relevant to each sector.
Head of BSKJI, Emmy Suryandari, highlighted the importance of standardization and conformity assessment in ensuring that green industry implementation remains measurable and accountable.
She explained that standardization guarantees that industrial practices comply with applicable regulations, allowing the benefits to be maximized for both businesses and society.
Meanwhile, BSPJI Padang Head Dindin Syafruddin reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to assist industry players in adopting green industry practices. He expressed optimism that these initiatives will help industries become more efficient, competitive, and environmentally responsible.
Through this continued commitment, BSPJI Padang plays an active role in advancing efficient, competitive, and sustainable industrial practices in line with the Ministry’s green industry transformation agenda.
Conclusion
The push for green industry transformation by the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia reflects a strong commitment to balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability. Through standardization, certification, and institutional support, Indonesia aims to build a more competitive and responsible industrial sector. In the long run, these efforts are expected to strengthen global competitiveness while ensuring sustainable development for both industry and society.
