Jakarta, INTI - The Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections is drafting a cross-sector Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) roadmap aimed at strengthening coordination, synchronization, and collaboration among ministries and institutions in managing Indonesia’s national intellectual property system.
Deputy Coordinating Minister Otto Hasibuan emphasized that intellectual property management cannot be handled by a single ministry alone.
He explained that intellectual property spans multiple sectors and involves numerous institutions, making an integrated regulatory approach essential.
Strengthening Cross-Ministerial and Institutional Coordination
The IPR roadmap is being formulated through coordination meetings involving 27 ministries and institutions, with a total of 71 participants representing various sectors.
The discussions cover a broad range of fields, including education, creative economy, and technology.
The Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections acts as the central body responsible for ensuring effective coordination and synchronization among institutions.
Policy Direction and Challenges in Intellectual Property Management
Beyond improving governance, the IPR roadmap is also designed to enhance national economic contributions by optimizing non-tax state revenue generated from intellectual property registrations.
Otto Hasibuan highlighted technological advancements such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), which are creating new challenges within the copyright regime.
He stressed that regulations must become more adaptive to keep pace with increasingly rapid technological developments.
Through the implementation of the IPR roadmap, the government hopes intellectual property management in Indonesia will become more structured, integrated, and capable of providing stronger protection while maximizing economic benefits for the nation.
Conclusion
Indonesia is strengthening its national intellectual property framework through a cross-sector roadmap designed to improve coordination, adapt to rapid technological change, and maximize the economic value of intellectual property in the digital era.
