Jakarta, INTI - Google has introduced an update to its AI-powered search feature, AI Mode, significantly enhancing how users browse and interact with information online.
Previously, users had to switch tabs to open web pages from AI search results. With this update, web pages can now be displayed side-by-side within the same screen, eliminating the need to open new tabs.
With this feature, when users click on a link while using AI Mode, the webpage instantly appears alongside the AI interface, creating a more seamless browsing experience.
“Our early testers appreciated not having to constantly switch tabs while getting assistance when reading long articles or watching videos,” Google stated in a blog post.
According to the company, this side-by-side view allows users to stay focused on their tasks while exploring relevant content more efficiently.
For example, when searching for a product such as a coffee machine, users can input their preferences through AI Mode to receive tailored recommendations. After selecting a link, the product page opens next to the AI interface, allowing users to ask follow-up questions, such as ease of use or pricing, without losing context.
AI Mode then processes both the content of the open page and additional web sources to deliver more relevant and contextual responses.
Google noted that this approach makes it easier for users to explore websites, compare details, and ask deeper questions while maintaining continuity in their search experience.
Multi-Tab Context Integration
In addition to the side-by-side feature, Google is also introducing a new way to search using multiple tabs simultaneously.
On both desktop and mobile versions of Google Chrome, users can tap a new “plus” icon located in the New Tab search bar or within AI Mode. From there, they can select currently open or recently viewed tabs to include in their search.
This functionality allows users to combine multiple sources, such as tabs, images, or files, to provide richer context for AI-based queries.
For instance, when searching for hiking trails, users can combine several open tabs and ask for recommendations for similar routes in different locations.
Similarly, students preparing for exams can include notes or study materials they have open to request additional explanations from the AI.
Currently, the updated AI Mode is available only to users in the United States, with Google planning to gradually expand the feature to other regions in the future.
Conclusion
Google’s latest AI Mode update marks a significant shift in how users interact with search, blending AI assistance with real-time web browsing in a more seamless and contextual way. By reducing friction between tabs and enabling multi-source input, this innovation enhances productivity, improves decision-making, and signals the future direction of AI-driven search experiences.
