Jakarta, INTI - Google announced on Wednesday that it is expanding the integration of Gemini within Google Chrome to additional regions, including India, Canada, and New Zealand. The rollout allows users to access Gemini directly in Chrome through a desktop sidebar, enabling them to ask the AI chatbot questions about the content displayed on their screen, retrieve information from services such as Gmail, Keep, Drive, and YouTube, and compare information across multiple browser tabs.
As part of the expansion, Gemini will also support several languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil, along with other languages newly supported by Chrome.
Google first introduced Gemini in Chrome in the United States in September last year through a floating window interface. Earlier this year, the company added new Gemini tools that appear in a sidebar within the browser.
Gemini Expands to Chrome Users in New Global Markets
Users who receive access to the feature will notice an “Ask Gemini” icon on the tab bar. By activating it on any tab, they can ask questions, summarize content, or even generate quizzes to better understand a topic. Google explained that Gemini can also operate across multiple tabs, allowing users to reference several pages at once when seeking answers. This function is particularly useful for tasks such as comparing products while shopping online or evaluating travel ticket options.
AI-Powered Tools Enhance Productivity in the Browser
Gemini is also designed to integrate with several Google services to provide more personalized responses. The AI assistant can connect to tools such as Gmail, Maps, Calendar, and YouTube to deliver context-aware assistance. For example, users can compose an email directly within the Chrome sidebar using Gemini and send it without leaving the browser window. The assistant can also summarize a YouTube video while listing key points along with timestamp markers, schedule meetings, or provide a quick overview of a user’s daily agenda.
In addition, users can access Google’s Nano Banana 2 generative AI feature through Gemini in Chrome to transform images. For instance, someone shopping for furniture could upload a photo of their room and ask the assistant to visualize how a particular item would appear within that space.
Google also confirmed that, alongside desktop support, Gemini integration will be introduced in Chrome for iOS in India. When available, the feature will appear in the browser’s address bar through a page tools icon.
Earlier in January, Google introduced expanded agentic AI capabilities that can take control of certain browser actions and complete tasks on behalf of users. However, the company noted that this functionality will not be included in the current rollout for users in India, New Zealand, and Canada, as it remains available only to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States.
Conclusion
The expansion of Gemini in Chrome to new regions highlights Google’s efforts to integrate artificial intelligence directly into everyday browsing experiences. By enabling users to analyze content, compare information across tabs, and interact with multiple Google services, Gemini aims to transform Chrome into a more intelligent and productivity-focused browser.
