Jakarta, INTI - A total of 4.7 million child accounts have been deactivated by digital platforms as part of the implementation of Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 concerning Electronic System Governance for Child Protection (PP Tunas).
This achievement is an early indicator that platforms are beginning to fulfill their obligations to protect children in the digital space through concrete steps in accordance with government regulations.
"TikTok has removed 4.1 million accounts as of June. YouTube reported approximately 600,000 accounts in May. We want other platforms to follow suit," said Meutya Hafid, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, in Jakarta on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
Moreover, approximately 200 digital platforms have submitted self-assessments to the government. Currently, the government is evaluating the risk profile of each platform to ensure a safer digital space for children.
Digital Platforms’ Risk Level
Meutya explained that a risk-based approach is being implemented to encourage each platform to provide increasingly child-friendly services.
"We're not just suspending children's access, but we also want to see changes in platform behavior. So we're creating risk-based regulations," said Meutya.
She explained that the evaluation process for self-assessment reports submitted by digital platforms is still ongoing. Once the assessment is complete, the government will announce each platform's risk profile to the public.
Meutya emphasized that the successful implementation of PP Tunas depends not only on government regulations, but also on the support of the public, the media, parents, and the commitment of digital platforms to continuously improve child protection.
