Jakarta, INTI – In an exclusive interview conducted directly by the INTI Media team on March 5, 2025, Mr. Setiaji, Chief of the Digital Transformation Office (DTO) at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, shared his insights on the future of healthcare digital transformation in Indonesia. With extensive experience in smart city development and digital innovation, Mr. Setiaji has been instrumental in shaping a more integrated, efficient, and technology-driven healthcare system.
In an era of continuous digital advancement, the role of technology in the healthcare sector has become a key focus. One of the prominent figures driving digital transformation in this field is Setiaji. As the Chief of the Digital Transformation Office (DTO) at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Setiaji has led various strategic initiatives in healthcare digitalization, including the development of integrated systems and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI).
Setiaji has a strong background in digital transformation, with previous experience managing smart city projects in Jakarta and West Java. His passion for the digital world led him to engage in various technology initiatives, eventually earning him the trust to support digital transformation efforts at the Ministry of Health during the COVID-19 pandemic. A significant milestone in his career was his involvement in developing the PeduliLindungi application, which later evolved into the Satu Sehat platform.
As a leader at the DTO of the Ministry of Health, Setiaji envisions building a more effective, efficient, and integrated healthcare system through digital technology. This transformation is not only aimed at enhancing services for the public but also at facilitating healthcare professionals in accessing and analyzing patient health data in real time.
In executing his mission, Setiaji and his team have faced various challenges, including a shortage of human resources with digital skills, the complexity of technology adoption by medical personnel, and fragmented healthcare data spread across multiple platforms. To address these challenges, he initiated the recruitment of young digital talents, developed digital literacy programs for healthcare workers, and streamlined application systems to make them more efficient and user-friendly.
Under Setiaji's leadership, the Ministry of Health has begun implementing artificial intelligence in various aspects of healthcare services. Some examples of AI applications include AI-driven diagnostics for medical imaging such as X-rays and MRIs, genomic data processing for precision medicine, and the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) for digital healthcare consultation services.
Recognizing the importance of cross-sector collaboration, Setiaji actively engages with various stakeholders, including academics, medical professionals, tech startups, and regulators. Currently, more than 40,000 healthcare facilities are connected within the Satu Sehat system, enabling the nationwide integration of patient medical data. Moving forward, he plans to further develop the healthcare digital transformation blueprint until 2029, focusing on improving service quality and leveraging more advanced technologies.
Through his extensive efforts, Setiaji has demonstrated that digital transformation in the healthcare sector is not just a concept but a tangible step toward creating better and more inclusive healthcare services for all Indonesians.
With the rapid advancement of digital healthcare in Indonesia, the role of technology in creating an integrated and efficient system is becoming increasingly critical. Through his leadership at the DTO, Setiaji has been a driving force in accelerating digital transformation in healthcare, from AI-powered diagnostics to nationwide data integration. With a strong vision and collaborative efforts among stakeholders, the future of Indonesia’s healthcare ecosystem looks promising, paving the way for a more accessible, inclusive, and technologically advanced healthcare system.
