Digital Technology Strengthens National Defense: The Role of Drones, AI, and Supporting Infrastructure

10 months ago | Drone Industry

Jakarta, INTI – Indonesia is  at a crucial juncture in strengthening its defense system, in strengthening its defense system, by adopting various cutting-edge technologies such as drones, artificial intelligence (AI), and intelligent communication systems. In an interview with INTI Media, a representative from the defense industry, highlighted how digital transformation has become the backbone of efforts to maintain national stability and security.

“We are not just talking about sophisticated equipment, but about how the technology can be used effectively by personnel in the field,” said the representative when met at the Indo Defense exhibition. According to him, modern defense systems no longer rely solely on human power, but a combination of artificial intelligence, aerial reconnaissance, and stable network-based communication even in remote areas.

Strategic Region Challenges: Papua and Natuna Focus

Indonesia has many areas that require special attention, such as the maritime border in Natuna and the mountainous regions of Papua. The main challenge in these locations is the lack of communication and energy infrastructure. Many defense units such as the TNI, Brimob, and intelligence face difficulties carrying out operations due to limited signal and electrical power.

"For example in Papua, the signal network is very unstable due to the dense forest. The use of drones without good communication support can cause loss of control," For this reason, the company provides solutions in the form of radio mesh networks and repeaters, which allow drones to stay connected and transmit real-time data to controllers.

Critical Infrastructure and Field Energy Solutions

Any advanced technology is useless without supporting infrastructure. To that end, defense technology providers also offer portable energy solutions such as the Galvion Spot Power Manager, which can charge drones, radios and communication devices with solar power or vehicle batteries.

"Imagine having a TV but no power plug, it's useless. The same goes for defense systems,". This concept illustrates the importance of designing systems holistically, not just selling products, but providing total solutions that can work in extreme conditions.

Local Policy and Technology Independence

The Indonesian government is now more assertive in encouraging the use of local components (TKDN) in defense systems. Local companies are also required to develop domestic products such as flight simulators and tactical vehicles with high local content.

“Even if there is a global conflict and imports are hampered, we can still maintain our defense with homemade technology,”

Government, Private, and Education Synergy

Indo Defence and similar forums are considered very important to bring together industry players and defense system users to understand each other's needs and challenges in the field. Education is the main key so that the technology purchased can be used optimally by personnel.

"We are not just doing business. We are nationalists. Our main goal is to support national defense with relevant, effective, and reliable technology," he concluded.

Conclusion

Digital transformation in the defense sector is no longer an option, but a strategic necessity. Through the utilization of technologies such as drones, artificial intelligence, as well as mesh radio-based communication systems and portable power managers, Indonesia proves its seriousness in strengthening national security - especially in remote areas such as Papua and Natuna. Support for local content policies (TKDN) and personnel education are an important part of making this modernization sustainable and independent. The synergy between technology, human resources and infrastructure is the key to an adaptive and resilient Indonesian defense to face future challenges.
