Connectivity Drives AI Utilization to Accelerate Indonesia’s Economic Growth

5 months ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI – The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is considered to have significant potential to boost Indonesia’s economic growth by up to eight percent, yet connectivity challenges remain a major obstacle. Responding to this, the Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs emphasized the importance of an integrated digital ecosystem, including cloud infrastructure and data centers, as the foundation for AI implementation. This statement was delivered by Sonny Hendra Sudaryana on Sunday, November 30, 2025. With the right solutions, AI is believed to provide tangible benefits to both society and the industrial sector at large.

5 Cs as the Key to a Successful AI Ecosystem

Sonny explained that the successful utilization of AI in economic development depends on the fulfillment of five key factors, known as the 5 Cs. First, Connectivity, which refers to healthy, widespread, and affordable network access. Currently, Indonesia’s connectivity industry is dominated by three major mobile operators, meaning service distribution and speed can still be improved.

Second, Computing Power, where Indonesia’s data center capacity is still only 1 watt per capita, far below Malaysia’s 7 watts per capita. Enhancing digital infrastructure is crucial to maximize AI’s potential.

Third, Content Data, meaning data must be clean, valid, and compliant with privacy regulations to accelerate data exchange, speed up innovation, and generate added value for society. Sonny emphasized that fragmented data currently hinders innovation, making integration of educational, social, and population data essential.

Fourth, Competent, meaning the public must have the skills to process data and possess digital literacy so that AI is not only technically utilized but also delivers meaningful benefits.

Fifth, Cooperation, where collaboration between the government, industry, and civil society must be transparent, implementable, protect public interests, and promote the sustainability of the AI industry.

AI as an Economic and Social Solution

Sonny highlighted that technology industries and startups are beginning to view AI as a tool to deliver tangible impacts on the economy and society. Collaboration with civil society is conducted to educate the public and ensure the sustainability of AI-based industries. Proper AI implementation is expected to accelerate economic growth, reduce unemployment from the demographic bonus, and prevent a middle-income trap over the next ten years.

Conclusion

Connectivity serves as the primary foundation for leveraging AI to strengthen Indonesia’s digital economy. By implementing the 5 Cs Connectivity, Computing Power, Content Data, Competent, and Cooperation AI not only enhances efficiency and innovation but also provides concrete solutions for economic growth, skill development, and long-term economic resilience.
