Jakarta, INTI – On Monday (2 June 2025), a resident named Arif Surono from Gumpang Village, Kartasura, Sukoharjo, created an innovative multi-storey tube pyrolysis device called Pitara which is able to convert plastic waste into alternative fuel oil (BBM). This innovation comes as an answer to the increasing volume of plastic waste in landfills and is an environmentally friendly solution that has the potential to be utilized by villages through waste banks, village cooperatives, and Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes).
Plastic to Energy Processing Tool
The Pitara (Arif's Multi-Stage Tube Pyrolysis) tool developed independently by Arif works by heating plastic seeds without direct combustion, resulting in an oil liquid that resembles diesel. This process not only reduces plastic waste, but also produces an alternative energy source that can be used for household and other small-scale needs.
District Government Encouraged to Develop
Seeing the great potential of this citizen innovation, the Sukoharjo Regency Government plans to encourage the development of this tool more widely. Its utilization is designed to be spread in various villages, especially through local economic institutions such as village banks and BUMDes. This step is expected to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering the landfill and create new economic opportunities based on alternative energy.
Ecological and Economic Impact
In addition to tackling waste, this innovation can also have a significant economic impact. By utilizing plastic waste that has been considered worthless, communities can produce alternative fuel products that can be used for themselves or resold. This technology has the potential to strengthen the circular economy at the village level.
Conclusion
The innovation of the Pitara pyrolysis device made by Sukoharjo residents is proof that solutions to environmental problems can come from the local level. If seriously supported, this tool will not only reduce plastic waste, but also create an affordable and sustainable alternative energy source.
