BRIN’s Satellite will be Launched from India in January 2027

Jakarta, INTI - The Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Arif Satria, attended the showing ceremony of the space development cooperation agreement between BRIN and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. 

The ceremony was witnessed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as part of the Prime Minister's state visit to Indonesia.

The Collaboration Includes Spaceport Development

Arif stated that the collaboration with India's national space agency covers technology, space, satellite launches, and the development of a spaceport in Indonesia.

Arif stated that the next collaboration will be the launch of a BRIN-produced satellite in India. The launch is targeted for early January 2027.

"So far, BRIN and ISRO, as India's space agency, have collaborated to monitor satellites in India. Then, we will launch the satellite produced by BRIN in India," said Arif, as stated on BRIN’s website.

He explained that the satellite produced by BRIN will function to monitor environmental aspects, such as food security and satellite imagery.

Arif also added that BRIN will collaborate with India on the development of a spaceport which will be located in Biak, Papua.

Conclusion 

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) signed a space development agreement. BRIN Head Arif Satria said the collaboration covers space technology development, satellite launches, and the construction of spaceport in Biak, Papua. BRIN will also launch its satellite from India in January 2027, which will be used for environmental monitoring, food security, and satellite imagery.
