Jakarta, INTI - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) from Brazil explored opportunities for strategic collaboration in the fields of semiconductors, microelectronics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and embedded systems.
This interest opens up opportunities for strategic collaboration between the two institutions in the development of semiconductor, microelectronic, and nanotechnology technologies, which are the focus of both parties' leading research.
"UNICAMP has a strong research center in the field of semiconductor components and nanotechnology through CCSNano (Centro de Componentes Semicondutores e Nanotecnologias), which focuses on research in microelectronics, microfabrication, and semiconductor devices," said Marco Roberto Cavallari, a delegate from UNICAMP.
Marco expressed his interest in establishing a productive, long-term collaboration with BRIN. He stated that, as one of the leading research universities in South America, UNICAMP has a strong track record in scientific publications, technology development, and partnerships with industry.
BRIN’s 2025–2029 Research Focus
The Head of the Research Organization for Electronics and Informatics (OREI) at BRIN, Budi Prawara, also welcomed the collaboration opportunity. He explained that from 2025 to 2029, OREI BRIN will focus on research in big data, IoT, telecommunications, and underwater detection technology.
BRIN and UNICAMP also discussed various research funding schemes that could support their future collaborations. The scheme includes researcher exchanges, joint research, seminars and workshops, joint publications, technology development for industry, and human resource capacity building in science and technology through the Degree by Research (DbR) program.
Both institutions will follow up on the results of the discussion by developing a more detailed activity plan to realize research collaboration that will impact the development of science, technology, and innovation in both countries.
"Through this meeting, we see a significant opportunity to build a mutually beneficial collaboration. The shared research focus, strong infrastructure support, and commitment of both institutions to innovation are important foundations for producing globally competitive research and providing tangible benefits to society," said Budi.
Conclusion
BRIN's semiconductor research developments have attracted the interest of Brazil's Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) to explore collaborations covering semiconductors, microelectronics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), embedded systems, instrumentation, and other strategic technologies. UNICAMP sees great potential for building a long-term partnership with BRIN. Meanwhile, BRIN conveyed that OREI's research focus for the 2025–2029 period includes big data, IoT, telecommunications, and underwater detection, which can be strengthened through international collaboration.
