Jakarta, INTI - Chinese technology giant Alibaba has released a preview version of its latest artificial intelligence (AI) model, the Qwen 3.8 Max. The new model is claimed to be on par with other world-leading AI models.
Bloomberg reported that the model is said to be second only to the Claude Fable 5 model, developed by Anthropic, in terms of performance.
The launch of the Qwen 3.8 Max comes just days after Chinese AI startup Moonshot AI introduced the Kimi K3, which has also attracted industry attention.
With its more affordable price and open nature, the Kimi K3 is said to be able to compete with several flagship products from Anthropic and OpenAI.
Preview Version is Available to Developers
Alibaba is providing developers with access to the Qwen 3.8 Max through its coding platforms, including Qoder. The Hangzhou-based company calls its latest model one of the most capable to date. Alibaba also plans to soon release the Qwen 3.8 Max in an open-weight format for wider access beyond the preview version.
According to Alibaba's post on X, the Qwen 3.8 Max has 2.4 trillion parameters, although the company hasn't disclosed any other technical specifications. For comparison, Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 model has 2.8 trillion parameters.
