Jakarta, INTI - Indonesia's Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is accelerating the digital transformation of the country's pharmaceutical sector by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve operational efficiency, productivity, and global competitiveness amid an increasingly competitive international market.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that digital transformation has become an essential strategy for strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesia's manufacturing sector.
"Accelerating digital transformation and adopting advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer an option, it is a necessity to boost efficiency and enhance global competitiveness," he said.
As part of the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap, the ministry is facilitating the implementation of AI-based Industry 4.0 Proof of Concept (PoC) projects for the pharmaceutical industry, one of the country's priority manufacturing sectors.
AI Proof of Concept for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
Head of the Ministry's Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), Doddy Rahadi, stated that, alongside developing industrial talent, the agency is committed to accelerating the practical adoption of digital technologies across Indonesia's manufacturing industry.
According to Doddy, the Indonesia Center for Industry 4.0 (PIDI 4.0) provides companies with Proof of Concept (PoC) programs that allow them to evaluate digital solutions under real operational conditions before full-scale implementation.
As part of this initiative, BPSDMI facilitated the implementation of the System Invariant Analytics Technology (SIAT) PoC between April and June 2026.
The AI solution was developed by PT NEC Indonesia in collaboration with local technology partner Bogor Technology and deployed at PT Kalbe Farma Tbk.
AI Enables Predictive Maintenance
The SIAT implementation focuses on AI-powered predictive maintenance and real-time production equipment monitoring.
Using AI and machine learning, the platform analyzes production machinery to predict potential equipment failures before they occur. Early detection helps manufacturers minimize unplanned downtime, improve asset reliability, optimize maintenance schedules, and support more informed, data-driven operational decisions.
The Proof of Concept also evaluated the system's prediction accuracy, compatibility with the company's existing infrastructure, and its readiness for broader industrial deployment.
Meanwhile, Ronggolawe Sahuri, Head of the Center for Industrial Human Resources Education and Training at BPSDMI, highlighted that collaboration between government agencies, manufacturing companies, and technology providers represents an effective model for accelerating Industry 4.0 adoption across Indonesia.
