AI for Life Marks a New Milestone in Indonesia's Education and Innovation Journey

7 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved from an emerging technology into an integral part of everyday life, powering applications that support productivity, healthcare, education, and a wide range of digital services. As AI adoption accelerates, a critical question has emerged: how can AI be developed and applied in ways that genuinely improve people's lives rather than simply following technological trends?

This question underpins the concept of "AI for Life," an approach that positions AI as a tool to enhance quality of life, boost productivity, and promote social well-being. Rather than replacing people, the concept emphasizes AI as a technology that empowers human capabilities and enables individuals to create greater value.

The theme has become a central focus of BINUS University as the university celebrates its 45th anniversary. Through its Academic Senate, the institution is encouraging the responsible adoption of AI while promoting a more human-centered perspective on technological advancement.

Chair of the BINUS Academic Senate, Harjanto Prabowo, emphasized that AI should be directed toward strengthening human potential. According to him, technology delivers its greatest impact when it helps solve social challenges, improves productivity, and expands access to education and knowledge.

Building an AI Ecosystem for Society

The AI for Life framework is built around three key pillars.

The first focuses on technology, engineering, and information technology, encouraging Indonesia to move beyond simply adopting AI toward becoming a creator of economic and social value through AI innovation.

Achieving this vision requires investment in digital infrastructure, responsible data governance, privacy protection, cybersecurity, and the development of a highly skilled digital workforce capable of advancing AI technologies.

The second pillar centers on business and the creative industries. Within this framework, AI is viewed as a strategic partner that accelerates innovation and improves operational efficiency. However, creativity, empathy, cultural understanding, and human judgment remain irreplaceable, making collaboration between humans and AI essential for generating meaningful innovation.

The third pillar addresses geopolitics, law, and national policy. As AI becomes increasingly embedded in society, issues such as data sovereignty, cybersecurity, and adaptive regulations are becoming more critical. Effective governance is expected to protect the public interest while continuing to foster innovation and technological growth.

Higher Education Drives Indonesia's AI Future

The AI for Life initiative also reflects how Indonesia's higher education sector is evolving to meet the demands of the AI era.

Universities across the country are increasingly integrating digital technologies into teaching, research, and innovation, transforming campuses into ecosystems that cultivate digital talent, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and prepare graduates for an evolving workforce.

This progress is strengthening Indonesia's presence in global discussions on the future of education and technology.

One example is the selection of BINUS University as the host of the QS Higher Ed Summit: Asia Pacific 2026, which will take place from 3–5 November 2026 at the Bali International Convention Centre.

Held under the theme "Advancing Education for Purpose and Impact," the summit is expected to welcome more than 1,000 delegates, including university leaders, government policymakers, and technology industry representatives from across the Asia-Pacific region.

The event represents an important opportunity for Indonesia to demonstrate that its higher education sector is embracing technological change, fostering innovation, and strengthening international collaboration in the age of artificial intelligence.

Conclusion

As AI continues to reshape industries and societies, the AI for Life vision highlights Indonesia's commitment to ensuring technology serves humanity. By combining responsible AI development, digital talent cultivation, and global academic collaboration, the country is laying the foundation for a future where innovation drives both economic progress and social impact.
