Breakthrough from Kaiwa Technology

On August 8, Chinese science and technology media Kuai Ke Zhi released an interview with Zhang Qifeng, PhD from Nanyang Technological University Singapore and CEO of Kaiwa Technology. He revealed that his company is close to completing the world’s first pregnant humanoid robot, equipped with a sophisticated incubation pod integrated within the robot’s abdominal module.

According to Qifeng, the robot is not just an incubator but is capable of undergoing a full 10-month pregnancy process and even delivering a live baby, closely resembling the natural process in humans.

Artificial Womb as the Core Technology

The key innovation of this robot lies in the artificial womb, where the embryo is implanted and nurtured in an amniotic fluid environment. Fetal nutrients are supplied through a tube functioning like an umbilical cord. This technology has previously been tested on animals with promising results.

Qifeng stated that the artificial womb system has reached a mature stage and is now being prepared for integration into the humanoid robot’s body. With this integration, the robot will be able to interact with humans throughout the pregnancy process.

Public Hopes and Controversy

The idea of a pregnant humanoid robot has sparked mixed reactions. Some strongly support the innovation, particularly those who struggle to conceive naturally or through artificial insemination.

“I have tried artificial insemination three times but failed. Now I have a chance to have a baby,” wrote one hopeful netizen.
