Jakarta, INTI - PT Telekomunikasi Seluler (Telkomsel) is equipping thousands of teachers across Indonesia with digital and artificial intelligence (AI) skills through its Terpujilah Guru program. The corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, launched for the first time this year, attracted nearly 3,800 registrations, exceeding its initial target of 1,000–2,000 participants.
Launched in Ambon in May, the program narrowed the participants from approximately 3,800 applicants to 400, then 80, before selecting 12 finalists. The selection process included mentoring sessions, bootcamps, assignments, challenges, and showcases involving a number of experts.
Telkomsel Equips Teachers with Digital and AI Skills
Telkomsel Vice President of Corporate Communications and Social Responsibility Abdullah Fahmi said the program focuses on strengthening teachers’ digital capabilities. AI is introduced as a tool to make teaching processes more effective and efficient.
“We are not changing their curriculum, but enriching it by showing how technology and digitalization can make their teaching process easier,” Fahmi said at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
Participants come from junior and senior high schools, vocational schools, and Islamic senior high schools, covering both public and private institutions. The program is open to civil servant teachers, non-civil servant teachers, and honorary teachers across various subjects.
Telkomsel also provides training and Level Two Educator certification as an additional credential for participants. The program is expected to strengthen teachers’ capabilities when they return to their respective schools.
Fahmi said the initiative also aims to ensure teachers can keep pace with students in adopting AI technology.
“That is what we are trying to achieve with the teachers participating in Terpujilah Guru, so they should not be left behind in the use of AI,” he said.
Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Nunuk Suryani, said teachers need opportunities to demonstrate and develop their competencies, including their ability to utilize AI.
“Teachers are eager for opportunities to demonstrate their competencies, and Terpujilah Guru is a program that I highly appreciate because it provides teachers with a broad platform to contribute and develop,” Nunuk said.
She noted that AI has become an increasingly important competency for teachers as educational technology continues to evolve. However, teachers must still be able to carefully assess and filter how AI is used in learning activities.
“This is a very important, sensitive, and strategic issue. It is not only important but also sensitive because teachers need to be able to carefully assess and filter its use,” she said.
Building an AI-Ready Teaching Community
Going forward, Telkomsel will monitor the impact of the program on the 12 finalists and map the distribution of participants to identify priority regions. Eastern Indonesia is among the areas receiving particular attention due to the strong enthusiasm shown by participants.
Telkomsel is also preparing the EduCreator platform through Terpujilah Guru for alumni to share educational materials and learning innovations. The 12 finalists will be encouraged to become ambassadors or local heroes for future roadshows.
