Surge (WIFI) and Nokia Joint Exploration in 6G Technology Development

2 months ago | Network Infrastructure

Jakarta, INTI - PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk, or Surge (WIFI), announced a strategic partnership with Nokia Corporation at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2026 event. This collaboration will explore the development of 6G technology and the latest digital infrastructure architecture.

This partnership marks the first industry-led 6G exploration initiative in Southeast Asia, positioning Indonesia to participate in the global evolution of next-generation telecommunications infrastructure. The partnership agrees on a one-year collaborative framework where Surge and Nokia will conduct joint studies, technology dialogues, and initial feasibility assessments related to 6G network evolution.

Director of Surge, Shannedy Ong, said that exploring the evolution of 6G technology is a crucial step in preparing Indonesia's digital infrastructure for the future.

"Through our collaboration with Nokia, we want to contribute to the development of next-generation connectivity capabilities that will support Indonesia's digital economy and enable the presence of various AI-based applications in the coming years," Shannedy said in an official statement on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Early Collaborations in the Industry Will Support the Country’s 6G Era Preparations

Nokia's Regional Head of Asia Pacific, Andrew Cope, said that he is delighted at collaborating with Surge to explore the future evolution of 6G networks.

"Contribution of the industry from an early stage plays a crucial role in helping the country and its stakeholders prepare for a new era of connectivity and intelligent digital infrastructure," Andrew said.

With this collaboration, Surge and Nokia want to ensure that Indonesia remains actively involved in shaping the next generation of digital infrastructure while strengthening the country's long-term technological competitiveness. The two companies will explore several key aspects of future 6G network technology, including next-generation wireless architecture, new spectrum strategies for future fixed broadband, ultra-high capacity and ultra-low latency connectivity, and the integration of intelligent network architectures.

Although global 6G standards are still in development, early collaborations between industry leaders allow for the evaluation of potential implementation models and the identification of future digital service opportunities. Going forward, 6G networks are expected to become the connectivity foundation for the physical AI era, enabling hybrid AI architectures that seamlessly integrate cloud intelligence with real-time edge computing to support the next generation of intelligent digital systems.

Conclusion

PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (Surge) will work together with Nokia Corporation to explore 6G technology development through joint studies and technology dialogues. The collaboration is aimed at preparing Indonesia’s digital infrastructure to next generation connectivity, as well as supporting the digital economy in Indonesia.
