Surabaya Students Develop StrokeGuard Application to Effectively Prevent Stroke

6 months ago | Digital Health

Jakarta, INTI – The lack of effective monitoring for post-stroke patients often leads to fatal risks. This issue has motivated a team of students from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) to present an innovative solution through the StrokeGuard application. This cross-platform app can send real-time alerts to doctors when a patient’s blood pressure exceeds normal limits. With this technology, patients and their families can more easily monitor health conditions independently. The beta testing of StrokeGuard was launched in November,27,2025 reaching both patients and medical professionals simultaneously.

Idea and Background of StrokeGuard

Muhammad Irsyad Yunus, the team leader of StrokeGuard, explained that the high risk of stroke was the main motivation behind the app’s development. According to research, around 80 percent of stroke cases can actually be prevented, but limited understanding and access to accurate medical information often hinder prevention efforts. “Post-stroke patients and their families often experience confusion in daily monitoring,” Irsyad stated on Thursday, November, 27,2025.

Innovative Features for Monitoring and Alerts

StrokeGuard allows patients or their families to input blood pressure data, which is then processed using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The monitoring results are sent in real time to the relevant doctor, who will provide recommendations for activities or follow-up actions. The app also features automatic alerts if a patient’s blood pressure exceeds normal levels, along with weekly reviews to help doctors assess the patient’s latest condition.

Easy Access for Patients and Medical Staff

According to Alden Bintang Rafazha, a team member from ITS’s Digital Innovation program, the StrokeGuard app can be accessed via mobile phones for patients, while doctors and nurses can monitor patients through the website Currently, the application is available in beta version on both Android and iOS platforms, allowing for broader testing before its official launch.

Achievements and Future Development Plans

This innovation has earned the ITS team the 2nd Place award at the Healthtech AI Challenge 2025 and has established a partnership with Siloam Hospital. Looking ahead, the team plans to collaborate with ten additional hospitals and launch the Smart Stroke Band by the end of 2026. This device will simplify blood pressure monitoring as it can be worn on the wrist and carried anywhere.

Conclusion

StrokeGuard is an innovative solution for post-stroke patients who require regular monitoring. With AI technology, automatic alert features, and easy access, this application not only assists patients but also supports doctors in making timely medical decisions. ITS students’ innovation is expected to improve the quality of life for stroke patients and strengthen stroke prevention systems in Indonesia.
