Jakarta, INTI - PT XLSMART Telecom Sejahtera Tbk (XLSMART) continues to expand the coverage and improve the quality of SMARTFREN’s network across Kalimantan. The service has now reached 55 cities and regencies, including the introduction of 5G services in Balikpapan and Banjarmasin.
The network expansion is part of XLSMART’s broader strategy to strengthen digital connectivity in Kalimantan while supporting economic growth and digital transformation in one of Indonesia’s key development regions.
XLSMART Kalimantan Regional Group Head, Sarroso Dwi Panggah, stated that the network enhancement aims to deliver a better digital experience for communities across the island.
“The presence of SMARTFREN in 55 cities and regencies throughout Kalimantan, including 5G services in Balikpapan, demonstrates how XLSMART’s network integration can provide wider benefits for customers,” he said.
Balikpapan Becomes a Strategic Hub for 5G Expansion
According to Sarroso, Balikpapan has become one of the priority cities for network development due to its strategic role as Kalimantan’s economic center and its position as a gateway to Indonesia’s future capital, Nusantara (IKN).
Following the XLSMART network integration, telecommunications infrastructure development has continued to accelerate. Currently, more than 300 5G BTS sites are operating across Kalimantan, with services already available in Balikpapan and Banjarmasin.
Driving Digital Transformation Through Stronger Connectivity
The availability of 5G technology is expected to provide faster and more reliable internet access, supporting various digital activities ranging from entertainment and education to the digital economy. XLSMART also plans to gradually expand 5G coverage to more cities across Kalimantan.
Alongside these improvements, SMARTFREN’s data service usage in Kalimantan has continued to grow, driven by increasing activity on digital platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram.
As part of its effort to strengthen customer engagement, SMARTFREN also held the SMARTFREN Fun Run Balikpapan 2026 on June 14, attracting thousands of participants from running communities, students, families, customers, and the wider public.
XLSMART SMARTFREN Group Head of Marketing Segment, Astiyanto Tri Muktiwibowo, stated that the event served as a platform to connect with the community while introducing SMARTFREN services, which are now supported by a wider and more reliable network across Kalimantan.
Through continuous network enhancement, 5G expansion, and community-focused initiatives, XLSMART reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Indonesia’s digital transformation by delivering inclusive, high-quality connectivity services.
Conclusion
XLSMART’s expansion of SMARTFREN’s network and 5G services in Kalimantan demonstrates its commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s digital infrastructure. With broader connectivity, improved network quality, and continued community engagement, the company aims to support digital transformation and create greater opportunities for economic growth across the region.
