Sinar Mas Partners with iFLYTEK to Accelerate AI Transformation in Indonesia

2 months ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk’s subsidiary, PT DSST Mas Gemilang (DSST), has officially signed a strategic cooperation framework and joint venture agreement with iFLYTEK, a global leader in artificial intelligence and large language model (LLM) technologies. Through this partnership, the two companies will establish a new joint venture named PT Brilian Teknologi Sejahtera (BTS). The collaboration marks a significant milestone in adopting advanced AI solutions to accelerate digitalization and intelligent transformation across key industries in Indonesia.

By combining iFLYTEK’s world-class full-stack AI technology capabilities with the extensive business ecosystem of Sinar Mas, the partnership aims to set a new benchmark for artificial intelligence development in the ASEAN region.

Addressing Cross Industry Challenges Through AI Innovation

The joint venture between DSST and iFLYTEK leverages localized LLM technologies to promote digital autonomy across Indonesia. While the initial focus is on transforming the education and healthcare sectors, the broader strategy also includes telecommunications, financial services, and AI-driven energy systems to enable cross-sector digital independence.

Through the implementation of iFLYTEK’s AI Smart Class Solutions, the collaboration aims to address Indonesia’s shortage of approximately 1.3 million teachers while also narrowing the gap in education quality across the country.

Operating through BTS, the initiative is designed to create an end-to-end ecosystem that automates the entire educational workflow, from teaching processes to evaluation. This strategic upgrade supports higher-quality learning through personalized and data-driven education, while also prioritizing the development of local AI talent. By ensuring that the platform is managed and optimized by Indonesian professionals, BTS is laying a strong foundation for a sustainable digital education ecosystem in the long term.

The positive impact of this innovation has already been experienced at Tzu Chi School. According to CEO Dr. BK Wong, the school’s AI development team found iFLYTEK’s smart board technology superior to other available solutions. Educators have also highlighted the benefits, noting that features such as AI Board Writing, AI Tutor, and the AI Recording System have become essential tools in supporting classroom learning.

“This is a strategic step to bring world-class AI technology into Indonesia’s education ecosystem and expand equal access to quality learning across the country,” said Marlo Budiman, CEO of DSST.

Building an Inclusive Healthcare Ecosystem

The BTS joint venture also aims to address critical challenges in Indonesia’s healthcare sector, including shortages of medical professionals and fragmented health data systems. By deploying AI-driven healthcare solutions, the initiative focuses on strengthening primary healthcare services and accelerating tuberculosis (TB) screening.

The program is powered by the Spark Medical Large Model, which has demonstrated performance exceeding 96.3% of human participants in medical licensing examinations. This localized approach supports the digital and intelligent modernization of Indonesia’s healthcare system while providing high-quality medical resources to bridge the gap between the current availability of healthcare professionals and national healthcare targets.

“Our collaboration reflects a commitment to healthcare equity and the long-term resilience of Indonesia’s medical infrastructure,” said Liu Yang, Vice President of Smart Healthcare at iFLYTEK. “By integrating advanced clinical reasoning into local healthcare services, we aim to close geographical gaps and ensure that world-class medical expertise becomes a fundamental right for every citizen, not a privilege determined by location.”

BTS is committed to developing localized AI solutions that take into account Indonesia’s unique linguistic and cultural contexts. By democratizing access to technology, the initiative seeks to ensure that the transformative benefits of AI reach all segments of society, from businesses to communities in remote regions.

This collaboration demonstrates the power of cross-border partnerships in addressing local challenges while marking the beginning of a new era of intelligent growth for Indonesia.

Conclusion

The strategic partnership between Sinar Mas and iFLYTEK represents a significant step toward accelerating AI adoption in Indonesia. By integrating advanced AI and LLM technologies across sectors such as education and healthcare, the collaboration aims to strengthen digital transformation, develop local AI talent, and build a more inclusive and intelligent technology ecosystem for the country’s future.
