3 days ago | Green Industrial

Jakarta, INTI - PT PLN is currently preparing the construction of a 600-kilowatt peak (kWp) solar power plant (PLTS) in Juanga Village, Morotai Island Regency, North Maluku Province.

Noer Soeratmoko, General Manager of PLN's Maluku and North Maluku Regional Main Unit (PLN UIW MMU), stated that the construction of this PLTS demonstrates PLN's commitment to supporting the national energy transition and improving the reliability of electricity supply for the community.

"PLN continues to strive to provide reliable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable electricity. The presence of this PLTS on Morotai Island is expected to not only support the national clean energy target but also provide tangible benefits to the community and stimulate regional economic growth," said Noer.

Noer explained that the power plant will be integrated with the existing electricity system through a hybrid scheme, allowing optimal use of solar energy during the day while maintaining a reliable electricity supply for the community.

Energy Potential in Juanga

Anton Tonapa, Manager of PLN UP3 Tobelo, added that Juanga Village was chosen because it has excellent solar energy potential and is supported by adequate land conditions for the development of environmentally friendly power plants.

"Morotai Island has significant solar energy potential. Through the construction of this PLTS, PLN wants to utilize this potential to provide cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable energy for the community," said Anton.

The PLTS is expected to have a positive impact on the community by providing a more reliable electricity supply to support various productive activities, from the fisheries sector, MSMEs, trade, tourism, and public services. Strong energy infrastructure support is expected to drive regional economic growth and improve community welfare.

Through the construction of the 600 kWp PLTS in Juanga Village, PLN is optimistic that it can accelerate the use of new and renewable energy in North Maluku while providing more reliable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable electricity to support the community.

Conclusion

PT PLN is preparing to build a 600 kWp solar power plant in Juanga Village, Morotai Island, North Maluku, as part of its efforts to expand the use of new and renewable energy and support the national energy transition. This plant will be integrated with the existing electricity system through a hybrid scheme to increase the reliability of electricity supply while reducing the use of fossil fuels and carbon emissions.
