Pertamina Leverages AI to Optimize Fuel Distribution Across Indonesia

6 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Fuel distribution is a complex process that requires accuracy and precision to ensure energy products reach consumers efficiently and reliably.

To address these challenges, Pertamina, through its subsidiary PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies to support its energy distribution operations.

“We have Pertamina Hub, a digital control room where data is processed using AI in real time,” Roberth MV Dumatubun, Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, told journalists during the Pertamina Media Xpose Journey in Cilacap, Central Java, on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Through Pertamina Hub, the company can monitor fuel distribution from the initial transportation stage, including vessels carrying fuel, through to delivery to consumers across different regions.

“Energy availability at fuel terminals can also be monitored. When we import crude oil, for example, we can track its location, estimate its arrival time, and monitor other relevant information,” he added.

Roberth said one of the most visible applications of advanced technology in consumers’ daily lives is the government’s targeted fuel subsidy program, which uses digital barcodes to ensure subsidized fuel reaches eligible recipients.

Pertamina also works with the police, regional governments, and technology companies to strengthen monitoring and ensure fuel distribution reaches the intended recipients.

AI Supports Nationwide Energy Distribution

As digital technologies become increasingly integrated into everyday life, Pertamina is also developing applications designed to make energy services more accessible to the public.

“The use of AI and other advanced technologies is particularly important because we need to reach around 17,000 islands across Indonesia,” Roberth said.

He noted that more than 350 vessels operate daily to deliver energy to different parts of the country, including fuel supplies to gas stations.

“All of this needs to be monitored, which is why technology plays such an integral role in Pertamina’s operations,” he explained.

Technology Supports More Responsible Energy Use

Roberth also highlighted the role of technology in promoting more responsible energy consumption.

According to him, efforts to encourage people to use energy wisely go beyond media communications and public campaigns. They are also supported by the use of information technology and digital platforms.

“Promoting responsible energy use is not only about providing information through mass media or conducting campaigns in the field, but is also supported by information technology,” Roberth concluded.

Conclusion

Pertamina’s use of AI and real-time digital monitoring is helping strengthen fuel distribution across Indonesia. With thousands of islands and hundreds of vessels involved in daily energy delivery, technology plays an increasingly important role in improving distribution accuracy, monitoring, and access to energy.
