Jakarta, INTI - The Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker) is collaborating with GreatNusa, a digital learning platform launched by BINUS University, and Microsoft Indonesia to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) and software skills for Indonesian digital talent. This collaboration aims to prepare human resources capable of meeting industry needs amid the rapid digital transformation.
Minister of Manpower Yassierli stated that mastery of AI is now a key competency required by the workforce. Therefore, synergy between the government, education, and the technology sector is necessary to produce digital talent capable of competing globally.
"We cannot avoid digital transformation. Therefore, we must ensure that the Indonesian workforce has competencies that align with industry needs. Collaboration with the education sector and the technology sector is a crucial step to accelerate the development of digital talent ready to compete globally," said Yassierli at the opening of AI Career Boost Day 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Presence of AI in the Industry
Citing the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report 2025, Yassierli stated that approximately 92 million jobs are projected to be affected by disruption, but approximately 170 million new technology-based jobs will emerge by 2030.
In Southeast Asia, the demand for workers with AI skills has also increased 2.4-fold, while 69% of company leaders in Indonesia admitted they are reluctant to hire candidates who lack AI skills, according to LinkedIn data.
However, he emphasized that AI is not the primary cause of the increase in layoffs. Referring to the Anthropic 2026 study, layoffs are more influenced by business conditions, company competitiveness, and macroeconomic factors, while AI-based automation is only one contributing factor.
To address this issue, Kemnaker continues to strengthen the role of Vocational Training Centers (BLK) through digital training, including in AI and smart operations, and is developing online job fairs to accelerate the match between job seekers and industry needs.
Yassierli believes that AI can actually create new job opportunities if supported by a strong talent development ecosystem. According to him, Indonesia needs to build close collaboration between the government, education, and industry to capitalize on these opportunities.
"We want training, certification, and access to job opportunities to become one interconnected ecosystem. That way, people will not only gain skills but also have a faster path to entering the workforce," he said.
