Microsoft Presents Free AI Video Feature via Bing, Utilizing OpenAI's Sora Technology

10 months ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI – As reported by Tech Crunch on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, this is the first time that Sora, OpenAI's advanced video generative technology, is available for free. This innovation comes through the launch of the Bing Video Creator feature on Microsoft's Bing search engine. This feature allows users to automatically create videos from text commands (text-to-video) using the sophistication of AI, without a subscription fee.

This launch is a significant step in expanding public access to generative video technology, which was previously only available to premium users. It marks a new chapter in the close collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI in utilizing artificial intelligence for creative content.

Available on Mobile Apps, Video Production Still Limited

Currently, Bing Video Creator can only be used via the mobile app and is not yet available on the desktop version. Although there is a 'fast' mode, the video creation process can take up to several hours, depending on system load and user demand.

Users who have signed in with their Microsoft account can create up to 10 videos for free, with each video “paid for” using 100 Microsoft Rewards points. These points can be collected through activities such as searches on Bing or purchases on the Microsoft Store for example, each search on a PC earns 5 points, with a maximum limit of 150 points per day.

Limited Duration and Formats, but Will Be Expanded

For now, the videos produced are 5 seconds long with a vertical ratio of 9:16, suitable for social media formats such as Instagram Stories or TikTok. Users can also only queue up a maximum of three videos at a time. Microsoft confirmed that it is developing a 16:9 horizontal ratio option for use in the near future.

Although still an early version, this launch is an important first step in the evolution of AI-based creative tools. Microsoft hopes that this technology can encourage people to be more productive and creative in an easier and more inclusive way.

Conclusion

The launch of the Bing Video Creator feature that leverages OpenAI's Sora AI technology marks Microsoft's efforts to democratize access to generative video technology. With just text, users can now create short video content without the need for technical expertise, making AI an increasingly accessible creation tool.
