Jakarta, INTI - Meta has launched an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered shopping feature that allows consumers to automatically view user review summaries. This feature is expected to boost customer transactions on the e-commerce platform.
This feature, introduced at the Shoptalk 2026 conference, is designed to transform the online shopping experience on Facebook and Instagram through the use of generative AI. When consumers click on an ad, the AI system will present in-depth information without requiring users to read hundreds of manual reviews.
This mechanism is a reference to similar technology introduced by Amazon in 2023. Meta uses AI to summarize customer feedback into a short paragraph that covers key points about the product's advantages and disadvantages on a pop-up page.
In addition to the review summary, this feature provides details about the brand profile, related product recommendations, and information about discounts. According to AI Insider, Meta also includes a direct button to add items into the shopping cart to speed up the transaction process.
This update is supported by a new payment flow developed through a strategic partnership with Stripe and PayPal. This system allows consumers to complete purchases with just one click without having to leave the Meta app.
Meta management stated that payment flexibility remains under the advertiser's control. Business owners can choose specific payment partners to fulfill orders, while users receive a seamless and integrated shopping experience.
Meta confirmed that it is working on further integrations with financial services provider Adyen and e-commerce platform Shopify. These expansion plans are scheduled to roll out soon to broaden the reach of its digital payment services.
Meta Also Partners with Other E-Commerce Platforms
The company is also expanding its affiliate program for content creators to strengthen the product discovery ecosystem. In Asia, Meta is partnering with Shopee as a primary affiliate partner for Facebook and Instagram.
In the United States, the list of affiliate partners now includes Amazon, eBay, and Temu. Meanwhile, in Latin America, the company has partnered with Mercado Libre to support creator revenue through sales commissions.
Instagram Reels creators in 22 countries now have direct access to product catalogs from various businesses. This aims to make it easier for creators to discover and embed relevant products into their video content.
Meta Encourages Use of Technology for Small Businesses
In parallel, the company launched the "Meta Small Business" initiative to encourage AI adoption among small businesses. CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, emphasized that small businesses are at the heart of the corporate ecosystem, and must be supported by advanced technology.
This strategic initiative is led by Dina Powell McCormick and Naomi Gleit. The program's primary focus is to provide broader access to AI-based tools to support the growth of small and medium-sized businesses.
Conclusion
Meta introduces AI features to summarize reviews and simplify online shopping, while accelerating direct transactions on Facebook and Instagram. Partnerships with Stripe, PayPal, and Shopify further integrate the payment system, while the affiliate program is expanded to support creators and businesses. This move reinforces Meta's strategy of building a fast, convenient, and AI-driven digital shopping ecosystem.
