MediaTek Says Smartphone AI is Still in the Early Stages with More Innovation to Come

5 hours ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Artificial intelligence (AI) is now a feature almost universally present in the latest smartphones. However, according to MediaTek, the current use of AI is just the beginning. In the next few years, users will begin to experience more AI applications that work in real time and are truly useful in their daily lives.

This was conveyed by Anuj Sidharth, Director of Marketing & Communication at MediaTek India & Southeast Asia, during a discussion with the media. According to Anuj, MediaTek continues to develop various technologies for its Dimensity chipset, from graphics processing (GPU) capabilities, cameras, and video processing, to the Neural Processing Unit (NPU), the brain of the device's AI processing.

"There's still a lot to come. People will start to see real-time AI applications and how AI can truly be useful in their daily lives," said Anuj.

AI for Smartphones is Still in Early Stages

He believes the development of AI in smartphones is currently still in its early stages. In the future, AI capabilities are predicted to be used not only for creating images or summarizing text, but also increasingly integrated with various functions on devices.

Besides AI, Anuj also highlighted the development of gaming technology on smartphones. According to him, features like ray tracing, once synonymous with PCs, are now starting to appear on mobile phones, delivering much more realistic graphic quality.

"When it comes to gaming, ray tracing support is something we never imagined before. Now we can enjoy gaming experiences with incredible visuals on smartphones," he said.

Furthermore, he believes connectivity technology will be an area that continues to grow.

"Imagine being in a place with no connectivity, but still being able to communicate using different technologies. That's something people will likely want more and more in the future," he said.

MediaTek Tech Solutions and Chipsets

He noted that MediaTek's innovation is not just focused on smartphones. They also develop various technology solutions for the broader ecosystem, such as automotive devices, WiFi routers, and smart home devices.

"We want to improve people's lives, not just through smartphones, but also through automotive technology, connectivity solutions, WiFi routers, and various other devices," Anuj said.

In Indonesia, Anuj expressed optimism about market acceptance of MediaTek's premium chipsets. He noted that the Dimensity 8000 Series and Dimensity 9000 Series have received a positive response from consumers in the country.

"The support we've received in Indonesia has been extraordinary, especially for the Dimensity 8000 and Dimensity 9000 premium chipsets. We're just getting started, so look forward to future innovations from MediaTek," he said.

Conclusion

MediaTek assesses that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in smartphones is still in its early stages and will develop into applications that work in real time and are more useful in everyday life. Anuj Sidharth, Director of Marketing & Communication at MediaTek India & Southeast Asia, said the company continues to improve the capabilities of the Dimensity chipset, including the GPU, camera, video, and Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to support increasingly sophisticated AI processing.
