1 day ago | Artificial Intelligence

Jakarta, INTI - Google confirmed that its flagship artificial intelligence (AI) technology, Gemini, will be used to support a major update to Apple's virtual assistant, Siri. This collaboration is part of the two companies' strategy to develop a new generation of Apple Intelligence features.

Google Cloud CEO, Thomas Kurian, at the Google Cloud Next 2026 event in Las Vegas stated that Gemini-based AI model will be the foundation for the next version of Siri, which will be more personalized and able to understand context better.

Apple and Google are currently developing a new generation of Apple Foundation Models powered by Gemini. These models will form the backbone of various Apple Intelligence features, including significant improvements to Siri's ability to understand context from applications like messages and emails and provide more natural responses.

Launch is Targeted for This Year

Apple previously delayed the launch of Apple Intelligence-based Siri, originally planned for 2025, due to technical difficulties. The company now targets a 2026 release of the update, as the technology is more developed.

In addition to Siri, this collaboration also includes the development of other AI features within the Apple ecosystem. Despite this, Apple continues to emphasize its commitment to user privacy through a combination of secure on-device and cloud data processing.

With support from Gemini, Siri is expected to evolve from just a voice assistant into a more intelligent and personalized AI on Apple devices. Apple is also scheduled to introduce iOS 27 at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2026, where Siri-related updates are likely to be announced.

Conclusion

Google will integrate Gemini AI to support Apple's major Siri update, as part of its development of Apple Intelligence. This collaboration aims to make Siri more personalized, contextual, and capable of providing more natural responses. The update was delayed from 2025 to 2026 due to technical difficulties, and is expected to be introduced at the 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference.
