Jakarta, INTI - Google has upgraded its AI-powered search feature, AI Mode, introducing several enhancements that significantly change how users browse the internet.
One of the most notable updates is the ability to open web pages side-by-side within a single screen, eliminating the need to switch between tabs.
Previously, users had to open a new tab to access web pages from AI Mode search results. Now, by simply clicking a link, the page appears alongside the AI interface on the same screen.
According to Google, this approach allows users to stay focused on their task while seamlessly exploring relevant web content.
How the Side-by-Side Feature Works
For example, when searching for a coffee machine, users can input their preferences into AI Mode to receive tailored recommendations.
After selecting a link, the product page opens next to the AI interface. From there, users can continue asking follow-up questions about usability, specifications, or pricing, without leaving the screen.
AI Mode then uses context from the opened page, combined with information from across the web, to deliver more relevant and accurate responses.
This enables users to explore websites, compare product details, and refine their queries while maintaining the original search context.
Combining Multiple Tabs in One Search
In addition to the split-screen feature, Google has introduced a new way to search using multiple tabs simultaneously.
On both desktop and mobile versions of Google Chrome, users can tap the plus menu in the New Tab search bar or directly within AI Mode.
From there, they can select active or recently opened tabs to include in their search.
This feature allows users to combine various sources, such as tabs, images, or files, as additional context for AI-powered queries.
For instance, when planning a hiking trip, users can merge several open tabs and request recommendations for similar routes in other locations.
Similarly, when studying for exams, users can include notes or learning materials to receive more detailed explanations from AI.
Currently, the updated AI Mode is only available to users in the United States, with plans to expand to more regions gradually in the future.
Conclusion
Google’s latest AI Mode update marks a shift toward a more integrated and context-aware browsing experience. By combining AI chat with real-time web navigation and multi-source input, the feature enhances productivity and simplifies how users search, compare, and interact with information, signaling the future direction of AI-driven search.
