Jakarta, INTI - The Directorate General of General Courts (Badilum) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Indonesia's judicial system through an AI Technical Guidance Program (Bimbingan Teknis/Bimtek) held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at the 12th Floor Meeting Room of the Supreme Court Secretariat Building.
The training program reinforces the judiciary's broader digital transformation agenda, which had recently drawn the attention of researchers from the Faculty of Law at Padjadjaran University. Their study examines the role of AI in dispute resolution within Indonesia's court system.
Research Collaboration Supports AI-Driven Judicial Reform
Earlier, on Monday, July 27, 2026, the Directorate General of General Courts welcomed the research team, led by Prof. Dr. Efa Laela Fakhriah, to discuss a project titled "Legal Transformation of Dispute Resolution in Indonesia's Legal System: The Utilization of Artificial Intelligence in Court Dispute Resolution Processes."
During the visit, Director General of General Courts Bambang Myanto outlined a range of digital innovations introduced by the Directorate, including AI-powered solutions designed to support a more modern, efficient, and adaptive judiciary.
AI Training Strengthens Digital Transformation Across the Judiciary
This commitment was further emphasized during the AI Technical Guidance Program, organized in collaboration with the Indonesian Artificial Intelligence Association and attended by judicial officers from across the country. Bambang noted that AI has already become an integral part of daily activities, including judicial operations.
"Without realizing it, we have actually been using Artificial Intelligence in our daily work," Bambang Myanto said.
He explained that the Directorate has long relied on digital platforms such as SMART Majelis, Smart TPM, the Executive Information System (EIS), and the Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) to support court administration. As these platforms continue to evolve, AI capabilities have increasingly been integrated to enhance their functionality.
One of the Directorate's key AI initiatives involves analyzing judges' performance records and court data to provide recommendations for judicial promotions and transfers. AI is also being utilized to process case data stored in SIPP, offering valuable insights that support judicial proceedings and decision-making.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Directorate General of General Courts Kurnia Arry Sulaksono stressed that judicial personnel must remain responsive to technological advancements to ensure more effective and citizen-oriented public services.
"Judicial officers must be able to adapt to technological developments, particularly by embracing service innovations powered by Artificial Intelligence," Kurnia said.
The combination of Padjadjaran University's research collaboration and the nationwide AI training program reflects the Directorate's strong commitment to building a modern judicial ecosystem that effectively leverages emerging technologies.
