Jakarta, INTI - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, emphasized the importance of adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to optimize Indonesia’s agricultural sector.
He stated that the adoption of advanced technologies, particularly AI, is both critical and strategic in supporting agricultural growth and ensuring its long-term sustainability in Indonesia.
AI Applications Transforming Agriculture
According to him, AI offers a wide range of benefits for farmers. The technology can detect pests and plant diseases, enhance land productivity, and automate crop maintenance processes.
Furthermore, AI can also map distribution routes and conduct predictive analysis regarding future food availability.
Nezar acknowledged that the effective implementation of AI requires a strong telecommunications infrastructure. He explained that AI operates based on data exchange, which heavily depends on the quality of internet connectivity.
He highlighted that telecommunications infrastructure is a fundamental prerequisite, as AI relies on data that is transmitted through digital networks.
To support these innovations, the government continues to accelerate the development and expansion of telecommunications infrastructure across the country, including remote areas.
Special attention is being given to underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3T) to ensure equal access to internet connectivity.
Nezar expressed hope that equitable connectivity can drive regional digital economic growth, empower MSMEs, and enhance information exchange and digital skills within communities.
Looking ahead, the government will also continue collaborating with universities to strengthen research and foster homegrown AI innovations.
Conclusion
The integration of AI and robust digital infrastructure is key to advancing Indonesia’s agricultural sector, ensuring sustainability, improving productivity, and fostering inclusive digital growth across regions.
