Jakarta, INTI - China’s National Medical Insurance AI Imaging Competition has invited medical institutions, universities, and technology companies from ASEAN countries to participate in an artificial intelligence (AI) innovation event scheduled to take place in Guangxi, China, from August to October 2026.
The national-level competition, which focuses on “AI + image recognition” technologies, is jointly organized by China’s National Healthcare Security Administration and the People’s Government of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The initiative serves as a platform for technological exchange and the development of AI-driven solutions in medical imaging, supported by technical assistance and commercialization opportunities for innovative outcomes.
Focus on Disease Diagnosis and Medical Imaging
Under the theme “Smart Imaging, Smart Future,” the competition features eight specialized tracks covering the diagnosis of major diseases, including lung cancer, breast cancer, glioma, kidney cancer, and thyroid cancer.
Participants will develop AI-based solutions using various medical imaging modalities such as CT scans, MRI, CTA, X-ray, and ultrasound.
Organizers will provide curated medical datasets that have been reviewed and annotated by healthcare experts for training, validation, and AI model evaluation purposes.
All data has been anonymized and processed with strict privacy protection measures to ensure patient confidentiality.
During a promotional event held in Hanoi, Vietnam, the organizing committee presented competition guidelines, registration procedures, and opportunities for healthcare technology collaboration between China and ASEAN countries.
The event also served as a discussion forum on trends in medical imaging AI and its applications in healthcare services.
Guangxi to Provide Funding and Commercialization Support
Several universities, research institutions, and medical companies in Malaysia have already expressed interest in forming teams and joining the competition.
They hope the initiative will strengthen collaboration in AI medical imaging development between China and the ASEAN region.
The organizers highlighted Guangxi’s strategic position as a China–ASEAN cooperation hub, supported by cross-border platforms such as the China–ASEAN Information Harbor and the Fangchenggang International Medical Opening Pilot Zone.
In addition, Guangxi plans to allocate 45 billion yuan over the next three years to support the development of the AI industry.
The region will also establish a 10 billion yuan AI industry fund to strengthen research, development, and technology deployment.
Registration Deadline and Competition Timeline
Winning projects will receive dedicated funding support and priority access to China’s Class II medical device review process.
Industrialization projects involving core technology development may receive funding of up to 20 million yuan.
The competition is open to both domestic and international participants, with free online registration available.
The preliminary round will be conducted online from August 1 to September 30, 2026 via an integrated cloud computing platform.
The final stage is scheduled to take place in Nanning, Guangxi, in mid-October 2026, featuring live presentations and project defense sessions.
Organizers stated that the competition is expected to accelerate innovation in medical imaging AI while strengthening regional healthcare collaboration across ASEAN.
Conclusion
The China National Medical Imaging AI Competition presents a strategic platform for advancing healthcare innovation through artificial intelligence, while fostering deeper collaboration between China and ASEAN countries. By combining large-scale funding, shared medical datasets, and cross-border participation, the initiative is expected to accelerate the development of AI-driven medical imaging solutions and strengthen regional healthcare technology ecosystems.
