Jakarta, INTI - OpenAI's artificial intelligence (AI) platform, ChatGPT, now has 1 billion monthly active users. This achievement makes ChatGPT the fastest application to reach the number.
Reuters reported that ChatGPT successfully recorded 1 billion monthly users three years after its launch. This surpasses the achievements previously achieved by other major applications such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and others.
However, market intelligence firm Sensor Tower stated that ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude are in quite fierce competition in the market. In the United States, this competition is particularly evident.
According to Sensor Tower, ChatGPT users in the US who downloaded Claude in the first quarter of 2026 began to decrease their usage by around 5 percent after one month of downloading Claude.
OpenAI and Anthropic’s IPOs
Both artificial intelligence platforms are planning initial public offerings. However, OpenAI has not yet filed an IPO application with local regulators.
As for Anthropic, the company filed its application on Monday, June 1, 2026. Before their initial public offerings on the stock exchange, OpenAI and Anthropic both received funding from various investors.
Both also achieved impressive valuations. Anthropic is now valued at USD 965 billion. OpenAI, on the other hand, is valued at USD 852 billion.
Although Anthropic has a higher valuation than OpenAI, its global monthly active user base has only reached 56 million, which is many times lower than OpenAI's.
Nevertheless, Claude still achieved impressive growth compared to ChatGPT. Claude's monthly active user base grew 640 percent year-on-year, surpassing ChatGPT's user base.
