BMHS Strengthens Robotic Surgery Capabilities to Support Indonesia’s National Robotic Surgery Ecosystem

Jakarta, INTI - Through RSU Bunda Jakarta, PT Bundamedik Tbk (IDX: BMHS) continues to strengthen its leadership in Indonesia’s robotic surgery development by enhancing healthcare capabilities supported by the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system.

This initiative reflects BMHS’s commitment to delivering advanced surgical services driven by clinical expertise, multidisciplinary collaboration, and innovation focused on patient safety and improved clinical outcomes.

Beyond technology adoption, BMHS is building the foundation of a national robotic surgery ecosystem through stronger medical competencies, education, and research development.

As one of Indonesia’s pioneers in robotic surgery since 2012, RSU Bunda Jakarta has performed nearly 1,000 robotic surgery procedures across various complex cases and medical specialties.

These achievements include Indonesia’s third robotic-assisted kidney transplant, Southeast Asia’s first skin-sparing mastectomy, rectal tumor removal procedures, and myomectomy for a 2.7-kilogram uterine fibroid case.

The successful treatment of these complex cases has been supported by experienced and certified multidisciplinary medical teams, with more than a decade of expertise positioning BMHS as one of Indonesia’s leading robotic surgery referral centers.

Building Expertise Beyond Advanced Technology

“Leadership in robotic surgery is not built solely through technology investment, but through clinical experience, human resource quality, and the ability to manage increasingly complex cases. For more than a decade, BMHS has consistently developed medical expertise, strengthened multidisciplinary collaboration, and established patient-focused surgical standards,” said President Commissioner of PT Bundamedik Tbk, Dr. dr. Ivan Rizal Sini.

The advancement of BMHS’s robotic surgery capabilities allows medical teams to perform more precise and minimally invasive procedures, including operations involving complex anatomical areas.

With high-precision surgical instruments, doctors gain greater flexibility and control, supporting smaller incisions, reduced tissue trauma, and faster patient recovery.

Strengthening National Robotic Surgery Collaboration 

As part of its long-term commitment to developing Indonesia’s robotic surgery ecosystem, BMHS continues to expand collaboration with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in healthcare education, research, medical technology innovation, and medical workforce development.

The collaboration includes BMHS’s donation of a robotic surgery system to FTMD ITB as an educational, research, and innovation platform for developing medical technology capabilities in Indonesia.

This initiative supports Indonesia’s national healthcare transformation agenda by strengthening referral services, healthcare workforce capacity, medical technology adoption, and collaboration between government institutions, academic organizations, and healthcare providers.

BMHS is also expanding access to robotic surgery services across Indonesia, including the establishment of robotic surgery services at RSU Bunda Padang, the first facility of its kind in West Sumatra.

Robotic Surgery as a Pillar of Healthcare Transformation 

The event was attended by Indonesia’s Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, who highlighted robotic technology as one of the key pillars of national healthcare transformation.

“We have defined six reform pillars, with the sixth pillar focusing specifically on health technology. Three technologies are our main focus: robotics technology, AI in healthcare, and biotechnology,” Budi said.

He emphasized the important role of private hospitals in expanding access to robotic surgery technology, noting that private healthcare providers can help accelerate adoption and availability of advanced medical services.

“Private hospitals are essential, especially in expanding access. For example, Bunda Hospital has already been performing robotic surgery since 2012,” he added.

BMHS President Director Agus Heru Darjono stated that healthcare advancement should not only focus on introducing new technologies but also on creating sustainable ecosystems through collaboration, research, innovation, and talent development.

BMHS continues to strengthen partnerships with government institutions, educational organizations, and healthcare stakeholders to support Indonesia’s healthcare transformation and improve national healthcare competitiveness.

As part of this commitment, BMHS also supported the launch of the “Robotic Gynecologic Surgery Textbook”, developed based on clinical experience and real cases handled by its robotic surgery team.

The publication is expected to become a reference for Indonesian medical professionals while supporting knowledge transfer, competency development, and the establishment of robotic surgery practice standards suited to Indonesia’s healthcare needs.

Dr. dr. Ivan Rizal Sini, who is also Indonesia’s first robotic surgeon and one of the textbook authors, emphasized the importance of sharing clinical knowledge and best practices to strengthen the capabilities of Indonesian doctors.

“The advancement of robotic surgery is not supported by technology alone. More importantly, clinical experience, scientific knowledge, and best practices must continue to be shared so more Indonesian doctors can develop the expertise needed to serve society,” he said.
