In response to these evolving needs, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH) is strengthening its 5G network experience at strategic locations across Medan.
Through these network developments, Indosat aims to provide connectivity that supports a wide range of digital activities, from entertainment and work to learning and the use of AI technology.
Agus Sulistio, EVP Head of Circle Sumatra at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said the digital needs of people in Medan are becoming increasingly diverse.
“People in Medan have increasingly diverse digital needs. Today, connectivity is used for many activities, from entertainment and gaming to learning, creating, and utilizing AI. Through Indosat 5G, we want to help people do more with an improved digital experience. This brings technology closer to people’s real-world needs,” he said.
The 5G network experience was also introduced to the public during Medan’s Car Free Day on September 27, 2026. As residents exercised and spent time with family, friends, and communities, connectivity became part of various activities.
“We hope this can have a positive impact on society. Today’s economic growth is increasingly supported by technological progress. The digital economy and content creators all depend on technology,” Agus said.
Activities ranging from live-streaming Zumba sessions with instructors and uploading culinary content to gaming with community members demonstrate the types of experiences Indosat aims to support through its 5G network. The company is promoting the theme “Mau Ini Itu, Ya Indosat 5G,” highlighting the wide range of activities enabled by reliable connectivity.
Indosat Expands 5G Benefits Beyond Entertainment
However, Indosat’s connectivity initiatives are not limited to entertainment. The company is also encouraging the use of digital technology to support education and skills development among younger generations.
Together with the North Sumatra Provincial Education Office, Indosat is implementing the AI Future Leaders program, which provides more than 10,000 high school and vocational school students across North Sumatra with AI technology skills.
Through the program, students are introduced to various AI tools, including Gemini and Adobe Express.
“There are 100 high schools and vocational schools involved, and we are working with the North Sumatra Education Office to provide AI literacy education,” said Anjar Budi Kurniawan, VP Head of Region North Sumatra.
The program is not solely focused on using AI to complete school assignments. Students are also encouraged to use the technology to develop creativity, support learning, improve productivity, and build digital skills.
The initiative forms part of Indosat’s efforts to make AI technology more accessible to students while helping prepare them for a future in which digital capabilities will play an increasingly important role.
